» All About Battlefield 2142 on ActionTrip

Needless to say, I felt the difference that these unlockable rewards make on my own skin a couple of times. No wonder I had a hard time killing that Support class guy with my entry-level assault rifle.

Naturally, each class gets these perks and upgrades, with some special bonuses for the Squad Leader - like the SD-8 Flying Sentry Drone. Being at the top of the food chain sure does have its advantages.

Finally, the massive battle Walkers (which are essentially Mech units) make a huge impact on the game. As far as land units go, they seemed like the most powerful of the bunch. It would usually take two tanks to bring one of those suckers down, and sometimes, even that would prove inadequate.

The situation would get even worse, when the enemy launches a coordinated assault.

Performance-wise, the beta ran very smoothly. You can make your own conclusions about the graphics from the accompanying screenshots. The sound effects were powerful and booming and they made a great contribution to the overall atmosphere.

Stay tuned for more coverage on Battlefield 2142 at ActionTrip, as EA gives us a chance to try out more than a single map and we rank enough to unlock some of the more advanced high-tech weapons.

Battlefield fans will get their shot at the latest iteration in the series in Q4 this year.

I guess you can't talk about bugs since it's still in the beta, but a friend who played it mentioned STILL no support for 1280*1024, and couldn't rebind their keys. Personally, the graphics look hardly improved either which annoys me. The new weapons like you said seem like re-hashes of current BF2 ones. Can we also expect mod content to be noticeably stifled due to the ranked player system? (Servers that run 3rd party mods won't be ranked servers and so less people will play on them)

screenshots look a bit rought (compression?) but can't wait to go mechwarrior on someone's ass.
2lions: They're not rough at all actually. Low compression and taken...

From these shots i can draw this conclusion: The only thing next-gen about this game is the name........FEAR Combat --> much better.
fatBastard();: When did better graphics equal better game?

Sounds like a weird hybrid between C&C: Tiberian Sun, BF2, and Planetside.

is this like a fureristic version of battlefeild?
Roboman [mail] Sep 07 2006, 05:35 pm EDT
looks fucking ugly as fucking fuck. fuck this game, and fuck EA.
cpd [mail] Sep 07 2006, 07:12 pm EDT
But it looks exactly the same as BF2.

Same HUD (with new icons), same overlays, everything.

*sigh*

I know EA isn't known for innovation *gasp*, but really.

It is still going to have extremely gay "enemy spotted" shit, so I won't buy it.
whiplash [mail] Sep 08 2006, 12:05 am EDT
It seems like the "Battlefield Vietnam" of Battlefield 2, so to speak. More advanced weaponry and slightly different gameplay mechanics than its predecessor, sure, but it is essentially the same game but in the future. Plus, bland textures make the entire game seem unimpressive to say the least.
craigww_22: It's EA...No need to state the obvious.
psydude20: Keep in mind that it's DICE that developes the game, not EA.
craigww_22: EA owns DICE.
Cheddar: No, psydude is right. Dice is still at least equally repons...

GAY GAY GAY

Fuck you people who buy this mod.
Cheddar [mail] Sep 08 2006, 09:37 pm EDT
As has been becoming more and more obvious for awhile now ....... DICE is overrated. Their studio is a one-trick pony.

Yep - I have a distinct (though vague) dislike for the corporate entity known as Electronic Arts, and I hate (in particular) what they did to our boys at Trauma Studios, but I'm also damned sure that I will buy this full-priced-beta release (erm, I mean...GAME) when it comes out because it will be so damned much FUN. Just as I'm sure that all of you who have/currently play the game will do, bitching all the way to the video store and back, mind you...so quit lying to yourselves. ;-)

They're still assholes, but (unfortunately, for our wallets and our consciences) they *do* have a fucking winning game series on their hands.

*sigh*

I'm still hoping and praying that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars snatches our attention away from these fuckers in due time, however...

2142 is nothing like BF2
FesterSilently: You mean, besides the game engine, the game interface, the (...

I have not bought (or downloaded) a Battlefield game since the original 1942, and I don't plan on discontinuing the trend for 2142.
