And if that wasn't enough for you (you whining little prick) DICE is also building an entirely new audio engine. I guess they want to make sure you've heard that grenade when it explodes two feet away from you in 7.1 surround sound! WOOHOO, baby!
I've already commented on the site about the player models and their relative sub par poly count; given the game's release date; but if you take into consideration the fact that BF 2 will have to calculate such advanced physics, along with the destructible terrain, it kind of sheds more light as to why we're not seeing as many polys on player models as we'd like to. But hey, if the trade off involves getting much more dynamic and immersive gameplay at the expense of some blockier player models, I'm all for it, baby! And anyways, there's still time for DICE to include such tech features as Pixel Shader 3.0 support and other neat 3D perks that will add more polish to the near final build of the game.
One final thing that should be noted here is that Battlefield 2 is being developed by the original Battlefield 1942 Sweden based developer, Digital Illusions. I'm sure that comes as reassuring news to many true Battlefield fans out there. According to the latest reports, the game is set to come out in spring 2005.
Hey, at least this time around, saying that we're waiting for a bona fide Battlefield sequel won't be that far off the mark!
