HOW HOT ARE WE FOR THIS GAME?
4.5
Meh?

WHY HOT?
Some cool weapon and monster ideas, doesn't look bad either.

WHY NOT?
Borrows too many familiar design and gameplay elements from other games in the horror genre.

» All About Dead Space on ActionTrip

Most of Isaac's weapons are packed with a holographic display, showing how much ammo he has left. This element goes in line with the no-HUD concept, which is an essential motif in the game, contributing to the survival horror ambiance. No classic FPS interface or health bars. Practically everything you need to know about your character is shown on the screen.

Relying on the features of his suit, Isaac won't just be confined to the corridors and compartments of the space ship. He'll be able to go outside and make his way across the ship's hull, bearing in mind certain realities such as the absence of gravity. The suit uses a magnetic lock to attach Isaac's feet onto the hull of the ship, which doesn't mean he can jump around without any worries. One wrong step or leap can hurl him into the emptiness of space.

Many details are unknown at this time. If nothing else, EA did promise all the essentials of a decent action/horror game - around 20 hours of gameplay, as well as a variety of puzzles, boss fights, chilling ambience etc. What's more, embracing another recognized industry standard, EA is strongly considering the possibility of making Dead Space into a new franchise with further installments, if all goes well.

Still, the Dead Space development team has a lot of work ahead of it and we'll be on the lookout for more info as soon as it surfaces. The game is in the works for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 and should arrive later during 2008.

Hmm...this maybe quite promising actually. Seems like its being deveoped by a tight-knit group with good heads on their shoulders. They'd do well to implement "space physics" i.e. effects of lower gravity. And they could also factor in radiation effects, gigantic sandstorms, temperature fluctuations, meteor showers that actually deface the landscape....etc. etc.
ohh...sorry, got a bit ahead of meself there. But all that would be pretty darn sweet.

yeah, it looks cool, when the preview video started i immeadiatly thought of Event Horizon. It looks more like resident evil in space though so i dunno if this will be good or not.

The survival horror fairy godmother knows.

ghost ships are great scenes for sci-fi horror scenarios but i think like Bioshock and many other games before this is where all goes wrong: THE FUCKING ALIENS INVADE THE SECOND YOU START THE GAME !!!

where the hell is the suspense, the echoes of your own voice amidst the pile of human ashes spreading against the cold floor after a terrible accident, the deafening shrieks of forgotten souls floating in the wind, black and white flashbacks that remind you of what once was home to many is now a silent grave etc.

this will probably be a good game, but too much potential is being wasted in my opinion.
Doomsday.: wot bout Crysis?? the aliens took a loong time to come out!!

Ya, that'd be pretty cool if the first half of the game was just figuring out what the hell went wrong, and why everybody died all crazy like.

i enjoyed the first 2 tomb raiders for the suspense, only coming across animals and the like in the first few levels. Although obviously not a scary game, i guess some people aren't all about the story and more about the shooting.the Mysts series also good with ambiance.

And of course playing AVP as the Marine in confined airducts with only the beep beep of your motion detector to keep you company.

Or Dino Crisis when you think you safe on the second floor and suddenly CRASH and the window busts in and the T Rex's Head fills the room.

Thats what i want a game that has you thinking what the hell's going on here and then BHAM!
  Doomsday.: DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM 3!!!!

Looks like it has potential, but I'm not exactly a fan of horror/terror themed games.
