When it comes to visuals, we were satisfied with what we witnessed so far. Unit models, explosions, and landscapes, were all apparently done with great care. The designers are also doing their best to create a compelling atmosphere; to make the entire game look and feel like a bona fide space saga. For example, perimeter shields seem quite impressive and can cause some cool-looking effects; such as a multitude of alien insects flying into the shield and perishing on impact. These moments are sure to contribute to the in-game ambiance. But, we're also happy to report that the developers are gearing the game towards an epic scope, where players will be able to produce up to 500 units and then send them into battle. We were also told that the game's graphics engine is capably of muscling over 1 million polys per second, so we're looking forward to seeing the whole thing in action.
At this point, Perimeter seems to hold a great deal of potential as a strategy game. According to Codemasters, Perimeter should be out come April 2004. This should give the boys over at KD Lab enough time to fine-tune the single-player and multiplayer before the game confronts a sea of competing strategies out there in the industries. The premise of the game may not be ground-breaking, but it sure as hell promises to deliver some decent RTS gaming.
