Although most of the game is carried out through a third-person view (or an over-the-shoulder perspective), the developers did promise a first-person viewpoint for FPS fans. Albeit, at first glance, this first-person view seems more appropriate for aiming and firing accurately, rather than moving around like in other FPS games. Still, this particular component is not without its uses. It was stressed that while this viewpoint is activated, players can tilt the SIXAXIS controller to peek around walls. MGS 4 marks other good uses of the SIXAXIS controller, such as shaking the controller to cause the OctoCamo to return to its default position. Not bad, and definitely practical. We'll see how it works when used during intense moments of gameplay (or extreme frustration when you are punching the crap out of your couch and screaming in fury - Ed).
![]() Ooh, that feels nice! Don't stop, Snake! |
![]() Hey, wait for me, ya bastards! |
Hideo's recent 15-minute demonstration of the game showed one particularly interesting segment involving Snake and a certain type of magazine. Whenever he's feeling exhausted or overstressed, Snake can get out a copy of a dirty mag to... err... relax for a bit (I always need a nap after I ....relax that way - Ed). While controlling the character, players can flip through the pages freely, feasting their eyes on the various love ladies shown in the men's mag.
Such moments, coupled with the brilliant artwork and excellent overall design, hint Kojima's persistent attention to detail. Thanks to him and rest of the talented crew at Kojima Productions, we have no doubt this will be one of the most sought-after action games during the following year. March 2008 is the projected release date and, from what we've gathered, it will be the kind of game that makes you want to go out and buy a PS3 console (Sure. Right after I sell a kidney so I can afford it - Ed).

| Love these series. It's a tie between MGS and Splinter Cell for me though, I love both equally =D | ||

| Never been a fan of the MGS series, only played Snake Eater really, but this latest vid has me psyched. If PS3s get Tivo service and drop in price again I'd be hard pressed to buy a 360 first... but I just can't deny Mass Effect. | ||

| Sorry I'm late Vader. I do indeed think that you're right. I have enjoyed playing the Splinter Cell games and I agree with Cheddar about the quality of the games from Ubisoft's Montreal studios (for the same reason I haven't bothered with Double Agent and I never finish Pandora Tomorrow) ... HOWEVER, the Splinter Cell universe is a bit too "real world" for my tastes compared to the fictional Metal Gears of the MGS franchise. I'm aware that this is a matter of personal taste but I WANT the epic cinematics/cut scenes and that is one thing the Japanese are really good at. I was in utter awe when playing through MGS2 and I'm currently saving MGS3 for my upcoming vacation (What? So I got into the whole Console thing pretty late and have a huge backlog of games I need to play). So in short: Yes I do believe a lot of buttocks will be prodded and prodded severely by MGS4 :o) |

| So fucking retarded.. he shot a sniper rifle and the closest guard apparently didn't even hear the shot or the other guard falling.. he falls from a balcony a couple feet behind another guard, the guard is apprently deaf.. he turns into a barrel and rolls, I heard a loud rumbling barrel tumbling towards the guards, but apparently they didn't.. well it's no SplinterCell but it will work for some. | ||

| Haha, that barrelcamouflage thing is hilarious. Where the hell did he get that barrel from? At first I thought it was a hologram but then he started to roll the thing and bowl over those 2 dudes. And when I thought the stupidity was over I saw Snake throw up only to recover using an FHM or something. WTF??. Are skinmags the new healthpacks these days? Also, where the hell does snake keep all his firepower? I mean I've seen him whip up a sniper rifle, a knife, a P90 and a RPG-launcher and all that from his little camo-suit. And you know what? After all those little things I was still impressed as hell with the video. I mean he can crawl at different speeds, walk at different speeds, run, roll, jump and all kinds of other acrobatics. I mean they've really outdone themselves this time. I've only played MGS 1 which I think was a great game but this is fantastic. Though the sight of an elderly Snake is kinda...bleh, it makes sense but still kinda bleh. |
||
pavarotti: Yes, that is the part of the game, that is called japanesse ... moopcow: Thats how I felt. Maybe the AI is still needing tweaking an... fatBastard();: Let me get this straight: Snake is wearing a camouflage suit... | ||
