More importantly, however, the programmers showed off a very cool feature that transcends the mere eye-candy cosmetics, and that are the true and consistent 3D environments. So while most "dungeon crawlers" are a fairly two-dimensional affair - you have your map and though we are talking about 3D objects, the approach to the gameplay is 2D - Space Siege brings true 3D space to the table. So, for example, I was showed as Seth was going over a bridge and in the hangar space below a bunch of aliens were milling about. Seth would throw a grenade down and blow them to bits, so that, later, when he eventually makes it to the area, he'd have less alien scum to worry about.
That's why cover is so important and having the advantage of high ground is not merely a novelty factor. You could stand on a high ledge and pick off aliens as they are helplessly skirmishing for cover below.
As you can imagine you can also use your robot companion to devise original terrain-related tactics for disposing of the baddies.
Finally, besides the single-player game, Space Siege will come with multiplayer mission-based gameplay in the form of 1-4 multiplayer co-op; certainly something that action RPG fans should be looking forward to.
Even though not a lot of Space Siege was shown as this year's E3 summit, as I said to Chris and the guys, I absolutely give them the benefit of the doubt. They deserve at least that much after giving gamers many hours of fun with the Dungeon Siege series.
