HOW HOT ARE WE FOR THIS GAME?
7.4
Hot

WHY HOT?
Steps were taken to create a more convincing life simulation, neighborhood exploration without load screens, interface improvements, enhanced character customization, realistic personalities.

WHY NOT?
Visuals seem to suffer on account of gameplay complexity, seems like a cool game for fans only, why burden the game with stuff players never get to see?

» All About The Sims 3 on ActionTrip

EA is introducing the new Create-A-Sim character builder, featuring customizable 3D polygon models that can be altered in a variety of ways. Players may define the appearance of their avatars by adjusting height, weight, hair and clothing. Also, you can customize your character's muscle tone and a much wider range of faces was promised.

To those who are familiar with the series, most of these improvements should be a welcomed sight. At the same time, players will also be able to do all the things they've done in earlier games - creating and controlling their Sims, designing, building and furnishing their homes. In that respect, the game offers additional customization options, so players can now take any material from any object and drag it over a different object to populate it. This way you can create matching sets of furniture and more.

In the end, to fans, it really won't matter whether this game will actually make a significant contribution to video game evolution or not. They'll just keep on buying it, just as they have before. In other words, taking steps to reel in life-sim fans and casual gamers should be enough for EA. The Sims fan base is huge and the formula definitely proved successful in the past. On the other hand, they didn't really give much thought as to what could be done to attract hardcore gamers. As a result, a majority of these gamers are likely to skip The Sims 3, just as they have before.
