Like any other action game on the market, Velvet Assassin is destined to hop on the bandwagon by showing its own take on bullet-time. They're calling it the Morphine Mode. The name is logically tied to the setting and it represents Violette pumping morphine into her blood-stream in order to enhance the abilities of her character within the dream-world. Like the stealth abilities, Violette uses upgrades along the way to improve the Morphine Mode, Stamina and any available Firearms. Speaking of Firearms, according to the media released up to now, players get to toy around with the usual arsenal such as handguns, shotguns, snipers, rifles, etc.
That's pretty much all the info we have on the game at the moment. Velvet Assassin runs on the ever-popular Unreal Engine 3 and, from what we've seen, looks fairly up to today's standards, presenting impressive shadows and realistic lighting effects.
While it can easily become a game worthy of titles like NOLF, VA also seems a bit mediocre at this point, showing off little to no innovative gameplay elements. On the other hand, there's still plenty of time make to turn this into a rewarding experience for gamers. Replay Studios invested a considerable amount of time into creating the background of the main character, which could (hopefully) make for a decent and interesting plot (something many games sorely lack these days).
Expect the game some time in Q3 2008 for the PC and 360.
