Richard Garriott Plans Comeback
Having left NCsoft, well-known game designer Richard Garriott (more often referred to as 'Lord British') uncovered his intentions to return to gaming.

"After 25 years at Origin, the last thing I wanted to make was yet another medieval fantasy game. Now, after a very interesting break, I'm keen to get back into the fray and work on a new game," said Garriot to BBC.

"Probably medieval fantasy and probably online; there's something very powerful about getting people together," he continues. Yeah, we didn't expect anything else from the father of the Ultima series. Let's hope he has better luck this time around with whatever he plans to do. It's a shame about Tabula Rasa going down the tubes.

By the way, he also had some nice things to say about Blizzard and WoW: "If I had to pick a developer who has done a bang up job, it would be Blizzard [the development team behind World of Warcraft]. The number of people they have converted is just amazing. They have shown all of us what good game development is all about."

The one thing he forgot to mention was clearly medieval fantasy.

Yes, I was quite surprised to see a news item about Garriott that had no mention of medieval fantasy.

After years of reading up on the gaming industry, I'm convinced that game makers now produce bullshit as much as politicians. "probably online" can be roughly translate to: I want a cash cow like wow.

No one cares about the art anymore, it's all about money.

I was tempted to get Tabula Rasa before it failed because it sounded like the most interesting MMO out there...They need more games like it right now....

And folks still care about this guy why?

The last good game he had anything to do with was over ten years ago. It doesn't mean he's still capable of anything decent. I remember way back Tabula Rasa was supposed to be an MMOFPS but they changed it to whatever it is now. I tried to give it a chance, and besides the combat it was still a pretty terrible game. I've had more fun with Valusoft titles (Hunting Unlimited, woo!). I don't know if it was NCSoft that forced him to make it more accessible (since they did it with Auto Assault, it was supposed to be twitch combat at first) but you can still create an excellent game that's accessible (like WoW). It was definitely not something one of the "greats" would put out.

Also I just realised NCSoft ruined two MMOs that had incredible potential. Tabula Rasa could have been Planetside with PVE and Auto Assault could have been Twisted Metal Online. And they literally ruined them; they've both shut down. They're worse than EA!

I'd rather have him stick to his space walks and rocket club.

Someone should have shoved him out an airlock when they were up there.

Wasn't he doing something for Tabula Rasa, (enough to put "Richard Garrior's Tabula Rasa" on box) so he DID depart from medieval fantasy setting... he went to space age fantasy setting.
