Operation Flashpoint 2 This Summer

Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, currently in development for the PC, Xbox 360 & PS3, has been given a more precise launch date. Codemasters is preparing to release the game this year.

“Flashpoint is currently slated officially as ‘Summer 2009,’” confirmed a rep, adding that the firm couldn’t be “any more precise than that right now.” The game previously had a vague release date. Then, the developers planned to unleash OF 2 during winter 2008, but that has evidently moved to July, 2009.

Amongst other things, Operation Flashpoint 2 allows you to take part in online 8-player co-op matches with friends (or 32-player matches should you play against them). "NPC teammates also enter the fray, which means you'll be experiencing battles with up to 256 participants (both AI-controlled and player-controlled)."

For details about the game, check out our impressions from last year's E3.

I'm having trouble with my sarcasm detector lately. Are you really looking forward to this game or is it that you simply don't give a shit about when it's going to be released?
Terminator [mail] Feb 09 2009, 08:52 am EST
It's been so long since the first Flashpoint came out, I don't even remember what it was about.
Ftmch [mail] Feb 09 2009, 09:08 am EST
This could be something, but I'm too afraid to get my hopes up.
Colaholic [mail] Feb 09 2009, 10:12 am EST
I hope the PC version wont be some dumbed down shitty console port.
Copperr [mail] Feb 09 2009, 10:51 am EST
OFP2 , ARMA 2 and America's Army 3 are really high on my list, let's hope they will be at least as good as their predecessors. Hooah !

I heard of the original being praised.
This one is on my scope.
SpaceMonkey [mail] Feb 09 2009, 01:18 am EST
I doubt it'll be as good as the original.........it'll probably follow the rainbow six foot steps......dumb down for the mass because the mass is dumb, to succeed is to be dumb or understand the dumb and make stuff for the dumb.

I'm gonna make a game called "fuck the dummies" with a guide book called "fuck the dummies for dummies". I'm gonna make millions.

the first one is really hard, esp. if you play the sergeant's turn. I actually felt lucky to be able to beat the all of the missions. Although the graphic is dated at that time (was it 2001?), I have lots of memory with the missions and the squinting-my-eyes part. This is the game where enemies are hard to spot, even if they are in plain sight and 10 yards away (the pre HRD era makes this even harder).

The bottomline is that this is the game where you can have everything goes wrong. That is why I love OFP.

Can't fucking wait.

Yeah, ofp was great. The moddability was AWESOME aswell, seriously, there where so many new units, weapons, vehicles, maps etc.
My addon folder was like 20gb as I can remember (which was VERY much for that time).

Great game, had it's flaws, but it was great. And damn hard.

oh... that was possibly the best combat simulator ever made. and the multiplayer part was pretty fun. i remember playing once on a polish server when a few brits joined. since everyone was talking polish those guys wanted to know the minimum of orders given in polish. the most important: "how do you say 'fire' in polish". someone replied "strzelaj, kurwa! strzelaj!" witch means something like "fire, bitch! fire!"... the most enjoyable part was that those dudes said "kurwa" all the time... and that's "bitch".
