Levine narrows it down to Civilization IV, World of Warcraft, Heroes of Might and Magic 2, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Beyond Good and Evil.
A fine choice. Though instead of HoMM 2 I'd sooner put HoMM 3 and in place of Beyond Good and Evil, I'd maybe go for unforgettable oldies such as Wing Commander (the very first one). Also, Diablo anyone?

| I like your picks a bit better Vader.... minus Diablo. | ||

| He actually put BG&E on the list? Hah, awesome. It still breaks my heart that the game's lack of sales prevented it from getting a sequel. |

| For giggles I just did my own list yesterday. HOMM2 was on it, not that its better then 3, but the 400 hours I spent when I was younger playing 3 way hotseat just made it much more memorable. Also good on Levine for having Link to the Past, at least that game is kind of old. I'm so tired of seeing lists of 'top games of all time' and seeing Bio Shock and Halo 3 on those lists. Anyone who has those on their 'best games of all time' list only started playing games with this generation and should stfu. | ||

| Good choices, though I'd put LOZ: Ocarina of Time before A Link to the Past. | ||

| Quake 1, Operation Flashpoint, Dark Age of Camelot, Morrowind, Stunts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhiRjQg1X14&feature Goddamn, it has some of the most awesome bugs, but none that ruined gameplay, so basically it had some of the most awesome features. |

| i guess everyone has their own opinion. i'd have thrown out all of those except for Zelda. | ||

| Civ 1 as well... Forgot about that. 5 isn't enough, it would have to be a top 10 to be a proper list. | ||

| Wow...no HL or Dues Ex? Wtf? I agree with the most underrated game in the last few decades, Beyond Good and Evil. It was an awesome game. But the rest of his choice are meh. Maybe his tastes are different. Oh and no Doom? Wolf3D? Quake!? |

| My list, in no particular order: Half-Life, Baldur's Gate II, WoW, LoZ: Ocarina of Time, StarCraft. Basically, I just took one game from the five most significant genres in the modern age of gaming (first-person-shooter, RPG, MMORPG, third-person action/adventure, and RTS), and chose that game based on the degree of lasting influence it had on its genre AND its commerical success. Note that I'm not even a fan of WoW, Ocarina of Time, or StarCraft. Those were objective choices, made from a detached perspective without the bias of personal preference. But if we're talking about a list based purely on personal aesthetic preference (as Levine's list seems to be), then my list would have to be: Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate II, Counter-Strike, Half-Life, and BG&E. And TF2 may someday get on this list, but I'll have too see first whether or not that game keeps me coming back to it for as many years as Counter-Strike did. |

| Halo: shut up, fuck you if you don't like the Halo games. There's a reason why they sell millions for every sequel, that's because the original was so damn good. Half-Life (and mods, specifically CS and TFC) COD4: God damn, I haven't put this much time into a game since CS (before it had cheaters) Zelda: Ocarina 007: Goldeneye - the reason FPSes on consoles even work. |

| Super Mario Brothers, Contra(tied with Killer Instinct - arcade game), Starcraft, Homeworld, SupremeCommander.. those are my top 5 and if you disagree with me you're going to have to suck my dick to prove me wrong, seriously I really want my dick sucked by one of you out there in ATrip country, but really those are the games that I have wasted the most hours of my life playing, over and over again. | ||

| Half-Life Series - Can't really pick one seeing as it keeps on getting awesome with each release and its always fun, and Technically Portal is in that universe. Zelda: Wind Waker - To me, the game looked good. It played very well, it looked very good, and it expanded what every adventure game should have: exploration. Disgaea - It's one of those SRPG's I can always come back to play for everything it has in it. Story, gameplay, and the million things you can do in it. Roller Coaster Tycoon - When it released, I don't know any other game in my house that everyone would all want to play...it was just a lot of fun building in it. Mario Series - Because when it strikes, so does those nostalgic moments. |

| Top 5 Games of All Time ? there is no such thing. i can’t even summarize 10 years of gaming in 5 titles let alone 50 years which took the world of games to evolve up until today. some of you may be suffering from acute brain intrusion or just have not been playing games for a long time which apparently includes retard boy Levine here. did anyone of you take into consideration the penny arcade games which robbed the days and nights of millions, including myself ? categories boys and girls, when dealing with more than 1 object which can be differentiated, you have to have categories. |

| Deus Ex 2, Starcraft, Half-life 2, Super Mario Kart 64, Thief, Command and Conquer: Tiberium Sun. Really loved theif, one of my first shooters, it was unique then, and still stands out today despite games like oblivion and what not, great dynamic and fun. Tiberium Sun was one of my first, and definitely most memorable games. Despite the negative feedback from DX2, about it suffering from consolitis and shit, i thought it had a really unique control system, i didn't have trouble with it, and it was pretty much fuckin' awesome. Starcraft, well...Somebody call for an exterminator? fuck, i love that game. Half-life 2's graphic's were the most advanced for its day, for a long while after, and are still kick ass. Plot was fan-fucking-tastic, and the switch from jump puzzles to physics puzzles was great, loads of fun, something uniquely half-life and showed off the much-acclaimed source engine well. Super Mario Kart 64, loads and loads of time i spent in battle mode popping balloons on a lava donut, great times had by all. |

| Deus Ex 2 was fucking retarded on every possible level, please die. | ||
| The Bruce | [mail] Apr 07 2008, 11:04 am EDT | |
| I wouldn't say it was TOTALLY retarded, but it DID totally bastardize the Deus Ex name. Had it been called something else, it probably would have gotten better reception in my opinion. It wasn't great, but it wasn't fucking terrible. | ||

| While putting forth the "It was a good game, but not a good Deus Ex game" idea, let's throw "Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter" series in there. I'd've loved it a lot more if it had simply been called "Advanced Warfighter", yah? Now where are my goddamned pills... |
||
| Stick! | [mail] Apr 08 2008, 01:45 am EDT | |
| Yeah, actually. It had almost nothing to do with the Ghost Recon series other than the fact that you'd get sniped by immensely small targets and wouldn't know who the fuck is shooting you 90% of the time. Idk, I guess i gotta go back and play DX1 again...i just dont see what was bad about DX2. I had great memories of it, one of my fave games. I just wish it was longer and the factions were even more fleshed out and shit. |

| Vodoo is right. I believe that you can't really compare games from different genres, so here are few games that I consider to be the best of all times for their respective genres. I don't have some particular list... Heroes of Might and Magic 2 are good, but HOMM3 is definitely 1st place, rest are hard, maybe (the order doesn't matter) Civilization 3 (I like 2 also, but 3 is better) , Warcraft 3 (2 is pretty good and was No 1 for its time), Age of Empires II, Command and Conquer (Red Alert preferred). That is for top 5 strategies (others would be Starcraft, Homeworld)... As for RPGs, 1st place goes to Neverwinter Nights (first one of course),but it was tight with Diablo, then there are few others, I will just mention Dungeon Siege (again, the first DS). There are so much good FPS games so I don't know which to choose (Deus Ex, Halo, Battlefield, Call of Duty...), but when you say Quake or Counter Strike (Half Life) you can't make a mistake... Driving simulations - well I didn't play many, but from car simulations, say Colin McRae 2 (rocked in its time, Dirt is now supreme but still my voice goes to 2) and of course Need For Speed (all parts, since every part rocked for its time). As for flight simulations - IL-2 Sturmovik, Microsoft Flight Simulator. Survival-horror genre is ruled by Resident Evil (first is the best, then 2nd, third, and so on) and Silent Hill (I would say 2nd is the best), then Alone in the Dark, Doom (2nd of course), The Thing... Platforms - Mario (no comment), Sonic, and many others. I played only few sport games, so I cant say anything on that... Adventures - Indiana Jones, Sam & Max, Escape from the Monkey Island... I certainly forgot to mention some good games, but that is what I could remember... |
