First Call of Duty 5 Screenies

The first snapshots from Call of Duty: World at War, the fifth installment in the famous shooter series from Activision, have just reached us. This month has brought a few preliminary details about the game. So, for now, we know that Call of Duty 5 will be returning to the World War II setting and that the game utilizes the powers of the Call of Duty 4 engine.

It was uncovered that CoD 5 is "set in the Pacific theater and partially in Russia's advance into Berlin." They're also saying that the new CoD offers a darker and scarier experience this time around.

The AI take advantages of the environment - "instead of taking cover and flanking in traditional European battle strategies, the Japanese hide in trees, sneak through the overgrowth and scrabble, katana in hand in violent suicide attacks."

Check out the shots right here.

Oh good. More excessive bloom and color filters.

This reversal back to WW 2 is the shit. And by that I mean a huge pile of excrement left behind next to horse footprints.

Hm... Looks like the Asian guy is glowing from radiation exposure. Is this some form of foreshadowing?

I can't wait to see how Treyarch shits all over this one.

im sure my dad will be all over this (he still plays CoD 1 and 2 and MoH : Airborne like everyday, i dont know how), but i have a feeling one play-through will be enough for me.

I can't wait to play Russia's advance into Berlin. Thats fresh and unique. Where does this developer get these clever ideas?

So the Marines get to use the katanas too, I see.

Guess I should've expected that.

Also, I think the only organic substances I've ever seen glow like that were fungal growths which only exist deep inside caves.

Oh come on, is it really necessary to nuke the screen? Too much bloom!!!
Zolneirz [mail] Jun 17 2008, 04:13 am EDT
We need some goddamn reeducation camps on what is cool and fun, these devs will be first in line.
zoozilla [mail] Jun 17 2008, 06:25 am EDT
If they're going to make a World War II game about the battles which were most like Vietnam, they should just make a Vietnam game.

And I'm not just saying that because I'm Japanese.
Foo [mail] Jun 17 2008, 09:24 am EDT
Not another WWII game. Shit!
dxm16 [mail] Jun 17 2008, 11:15 am EDT
dammit when the hell will activision learn that they covered all of the WW2 battles they use over and over in COD1? i'm serious all of the Call of Duty games are exactly the same.
FesterSilently [mail] Jun 17 2008, 01:12 am EDT
Okay,

I don't mind the return to WW2 if it's accomplished with a modicum of originality and aplomb, but fer Chrissakes - THE BLOOM!

Here, y'all: http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=224

Mabye games like Planescape would have gotten more mainstream attention if they had bloom...

That screenshot up there is so fucking bloomy they might as well just give us screenshots of pure white.
GrimshawUK [mail] Jun 18 2008, 07:40 am EDT
WTF is the bright white glow all about, looks totally out of place with World War 2 setting
Ullhass [mail] Jun 18 2008, 08:34 am EDT
Looks like the Hiroshima bomb just went off nearby
