I hope that by recommended they actually mean 'recommended' and not 'de facto minimum'. In that case, it's OK.
Vader [STAFF] [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:13 am EDT
Yeah, I hope so too, my friend. These system requirements are actually quite commendable. Also, let's hope the PC version of Dragon Age turns out well-polished, as I'm sure the other editions will be.
un om bun [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:19 am EDT
How are the controls ? Stiff like in KotOR or retarded like in NWN2 ? Anybody know ?
Vycka [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:20 am EDT
Yea. The PC version of Mass Effect, for example, could have used more polish in the graphics department. I hope Dragon Age will be better in that aspect.
Aurelius [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:22 am EDT
Well... Makes me glad I'm getting a new computer...
Neil [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:26 am EDT
TWENTY GB of hard drive space??!?!?! WHOAH!!!!!
Vader [STAFF] [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:28 am EDT
Holy crap, that is a lot for a single game!
cybergod [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:36 am EDT
Oh it makes a lot of sense. The game is published by EA, therefore the EA logo stamped on the intro of the game takes up 19gb or so. Any lag or complete game FAIL is caused by EA as well. Suddenly the world makes a lot more sense now.
JamesPC [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:51 am EDT
2.4Ghz Quad Core: Check
4 GB RAM: Check
ATI 3850 or greater: Check
DVD ROM: Check
20 GB HD Space: Check

Checklist complete, I am good to go! These requirements are quite reasonable for a new game. Many new games need a 4850 to get max settings.
WereGerbel [mail] Jun 17 2009, 08:08 am EDT
To be honest you would think the minimum specs would be higher from what we've seen of the gameplay.

Hm..minimum..minimum..minimum..minimum..minimum..minimum..minimum..minimum..minimum..minimum.. . Kinda loses it's meaning once you say it over and over again.

Join me now everybody....
blind_mad_cow [mail] Jun 17 2009, 08:39 am EDT
Hah! It almost sounds like your complaining that the minimum reqs are to low. Either way, at least you can run max res now and not worry about your shitty ass computer not being able to run it. Although, 20gigs is a nice chunk of install time...
gchrom [mail] Jun 17 2009, 09:03 am EDT
I'm sure those are indeed the miximumŪ system specs.
Dash [mail] Jun 17 2009, 09:19 am EDT
20 GB???

And here I was, complaining about Gears of War taking up around 9 GB which I didn't have...
optimus slime [mail] Jun 17 2009, 09:25 am EDT
One of the basic principles of modern programming is that the speed of program execution is more important than the amount of space it takes, considering the prices of computer memory, which are low. And I agree.

But that doesn't mean I want to change my hard drive as often as I fart.
20 GB is pushing and it just shows that developers got lazy, sleeping on the pillows stuffed with cash.

The game is not out yet though, so we'll see if it lives up to it's bulkiness.
Pantsoffski [mail] Jun 17 2009, 09:27 am EDT
Something is not right with this game...

Besides the strong feeling that this will be anything but EPIC, I fear that the 20BG of space will actually be collected information about the PC's owner (including photos of he and his wife while having sex), stored in the "game"s directory. All this will be sent online to EA, while playing, to help them take over the world and even worse: become master gurus of sex.
SubForce [mail] Jun 17 2009, 09:43 am EDT
You gotta admit though. No matter how hot a woman is, the vagina is a pretty fugly creation. SOrry, what was the question.

And gerbil why the hell is just your verbage running into the sidebar.

Poop, what's the topic again???
Kurio [mail] Jun 17 2009, 09:45 am EDT
I hope so Pantsoffski, spamming "child prom" "bin ladn" "bombing" "white house" etc on msn is getting old, could use some new targets to troll with random crap, if all the surveillance crap is real that is.

Anyway, 20gb... aint that much, considering that 500gb HDDs are about 70 euros...
Didnt conan use 34gb or so?
Anyway, hope the game is good, sofar i enjoyed all kotor/nwn series, altho yes the controls are bit... lets say, weird, too console-like to my taste but perfectly playable.
SpaceMonkey [mail] Jun 17 2009, 09:59 am EDT
I think it's high time we get some new "system requirement" info like "fps" or the difference between the "minimum spec" and the "recommended spec".
I mean they all have their own definition of what "minimum" is.

In addition I think today's producer is being spoiled, alot of older games running on today's spec at max setting looks much better than new releases that can only run at minimum on the same system setting. The point is perhaps their programming lacks efficiency.

A game that runs on minimum should at LEAST look as good as old games running on max on the same system setting.

By the way, I just bought a 1TB seagate hd, muh hahahahahahahaha.
WereGerbel [mail] Jun 17 2009, 10:07 am EDT
I might just break my piggybank and get a new system going, my current baby still throws down with smoothe gameplay and framerates but I dont wanna push her....she's all I have in this confused realm.

So...Intel or AMD?
InsanePotato [mail] Jun 17 2009, 11:29 am EDT
Woah 4 Gb ram for vista? Errr ok, well i'm ahead in every other department. Gotta say i wasn't expecting ram to be what i fall behind in first! lol
Baulderan [mail] Jun 17 2009, 11:38 am EDT
.... WOW... I thought that Crysis was bad! This is insane! I spent a small fortune on my PC and now I need a new processor? I only have a 3.0ghz dual core. I didn't think I'd need a quad core/i7 this soon....
Vader [STAFF] [mail] Jun 17 2009, 02:01 am EDT
You a gamer or not?
Baulderan [mail] Jun 17 2009, 04:23 am EDT
Of course I'm a gamer!
Jedrus [mail] Jun 17 2009, 06:26 am EDT
I agree with all those who got spooked by 20 GB of HD space.
No matter how you look at it, it’s freakin steep.
If this is a new trend among the upcoming games, we all may be in trouble.
thestewieman [mail] Jun 17 2009, 06:43 am EDT
Neil, you got a pentium4 so u can't play it...
c'mon everyone has a 1TB hdd, get over yourself and grow the fuck up.

in what under developed country do you all live?
it's quite low, i expected games to become 50 to 100GB around now, i guess development of games have slowed down considerably.
buy a 50$ hdd, and get on...
it's good for hardware development, so i am happy things are moving forward, instead of backwards (like some people here).
thestewieman [mail] Jun 17 2009, 06:47 am EDT
and for 63euro's you get a 1TB drive...
big freacking deal.
Templ [mail] Jun 17 2009, 07:40 am EDT
Well, the game has a lot of voice (probably for multiple languages) and music files; not to mention all of the different textures (of multiple resolutions), models, and all that. If the game's as big as they say it is (80+ hours to complete), then 20gb doesn't sound so unreasonable. It certainly sounds a lot, though.

This better be a good game.

EDIT: Apparently, if you install only the English language files, the game weights around 15.5GB.
thestewieman [mail] Jun 18 2009, 01:53 am EDT
game textures are getting bigger, pc resolutions are going to be 2 to 4 times higher than 1080P in the next 2 years.
so i expect games in 2 to 4 years to be on average around 50 to 100GB, and is the cause why DVD distribution will eventually slump (and blu-ray to really pick up, once the licensing issue's are out of the way).

the same was for dual-layer dvd's with games becoming 12GB, and the same will happen as display resolutions increase.
the worlds keeps on developing, and things never stop.
thestewieman [mail] Jun 18 2009, 01:57 am EDT
even a 40hour game will eventually easily fill a 20GB disk, simply because of the audio/video quality people are going to expect in 2/4 years.

this is also why digital distribution over Internet is going to fail, because there is no way, America specifically can catch up to this demand.
you would need a 100mbps to 250mbps line right now to even download a 20GB game "for okay download times", imagine what you would need for or 100gb or 200GB files (and thus optical storage is going to stick around for a long long time, until America catches up to the rest of the of the world.)
