Sony Still Says 'No' to PS3 Price Cut

In response to recent rumors regarding the PS3 price, Sony president Ryoji
Chubachi says
there are "no immediate plans" for a PlayStation 3 reduced price tag. And so
the rumors are laid to rest. At any rate, there are obviously no plans for lowering
the price any time soon.
Do the guys at Sony have any idea what they're doing?

| Bad new for Sony then. I was getting excited and willing to dish out $499 for a PS3 come july 15th. Oh well no buy for me now. Its not looking good for them. I'm thinking they wanted it to be a E3 surprise. They didn't want this dude to blab but I'm thinking Sony really does plan to cut the price $100 at E3. |

| This guy is at the head of a chicken that just got the axe. Still with Best Buy, Circuit City, and Target rumors of a drop, I think its in the bag. Sony should have simply pushed it back more than a week after E3 so this news wouldn't be leaked already. | ||

| Like I've been telling people for months, despite PS3 fanboys continually refusing to accept it. It's gonna be awhile yet before Sony can afford a price-cut. Even regardless of any resultant sales increases, a price-cut is still not anywhere near cost-effective, not so soon after the PS3's initial release and with production costs for the console still too high. PS3 sales would go up, and then a year later Sony's entertainment division would go bankrupt anyway. I'll be genuinely shocked to see the PS3 get a price-cut at any point in 2007. Mid-2008 is more realistic. |

| I just bought an Xbox360. Almost half the price of a PS3, tons of good games already out, Xbox Live, lots of promising titles being released in the near future.. it was an easy choice. Shame, really... the only console i owned last time around was a PS2, but Sony seem to be on a downward spiral recently.. the PSP, their advertising, the PS3. It all sucks :| | ||

| We'll see... I've always been an Xbox guy since I haven't owned a console ever, thusly getting my gaming from PCs thanks to Microsoft, but once the games come out for PS3 it'll be a nicer looking system. Even the 360 isn't really going to shine until... well, the next 6 months are gonna be glorious. | ||
