L4D 2 Refused Classification in Australia

Aussies won't be able to play Left 4 Dead 2 it seems. The country's rigid classification system prevents Valve from releasing the game. According to the ruling, Valve's sequel multiplayer shooter was 'banned' due to the newly incorporated body deformation technology, which allows heads and arms to fly around during shootouts. This is a feature that wasn't present in the original

Flying heads and arms. I'll admit it's a bit disconcerting, but you know what, there were worse cases of in-game violence than that.

Once again, we come to the undeniable conclusion that being a passionate gamer in Australia sucks major crocodile cockage!

Pretty soon the only thing Aussies will be allowed to play will be solitaire, but only using decks without face cards, and no red suits, or clubs... Maybe they'll let them play Tournament Edition Go Fish Online also, but then again...
Hivetyrant [mail] Sep 17 2009, 04:17 am EDT
I hear we will still also get to play the new mspaint in windows 7.

Aren't we lucky
Neil [mail] Sep 17 2009, 04:30 am EDT
Huh? You CAN shoot limbs off in the original!
Vader [STAFF] [mail] Sep 17 2009, 04:34 am EDT
Yeah, but evidently they've improved the technology, so now it can't be released.

people will complain, but in the end they just get it by other means.
SpaceMonkey [mail] Sep 17 2009, 04:44 am EDT
That's what happen when you allow non-gamers to moderate games. They might as well ask the pope to do it.
Supcic [mail] Sep 17 2009, 04:53 am EDT
Your convict ancestors are turning in their graves.
DylanDeVille [mail] Sep 17 2009, 04:56 am EDT
well, this sortof means free pirating or buying from another country...but if it is banned, it means no servers will officially run it, which will mean no community here in aus.
And we will not be able to play with really high pings on us or europe servers....
:(

This is just silly, I live in Sweden, one of the most liberal countries in the world when it comes to this stuff, and no, we haven't had a single school-massacre, and our violent crimes rating is low compared to the rest of the world.

SILLY.

I think it's the opposite, with violent videogames etc. you get an option to take out your frustrations on fictional characters instead.

I mean, seriously, the romans didn't have computer games, yet they had arena fights and people cheered when others got killed.
KeepSmilin [mail] Sep 17 2009, 05:49 am EDT
Oh if this affects NZ, I'm going to do what those hooligans did to the gay parade on general populous of Sidney.
Tastysanchez [mail] Sep 17 2009, 08:06 am EDT
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Oh well i'll just have to order it in like i did with GTA 4.
Yian [mail] Sep 17 2009, 01:27 pm EDT
Oh no some of my friends won;t be able to play!
run_like_snot [mail] Sep 17 2009, 02:42 pm EDT
Aussies are funny
splat [mail] Sep 17 2009, 03:58 pm EDT
Relax folks - we will just download it and play.
Move along...
Nothing to see here.

Between this and the potential censoring of our internet, Its enough to justify a murderous rampage.

Check your news in a few weeks kids >:)

Im an Australian and Ive never had a problem obtaining any of these so-called 'banned' games you're always reporting here...

Long sotry short, even though some games and movies are initially 'refused classification' they still end up being sold here, usually within the original launch/release timeframe.

This is another non-story, like the supposed net censorship that never occurred here either.
chosen_one [mail] Sep 18 2009, 02:09 am EDT
fuckin right it is. Goddam government telling me what i can and can't play bastards. they should all go fornicate themeselves with long rusty iron poles.
SeKRoiD [mail] Sep 18 2009, 02:20 am EDT
Who honestly cares that we won't get L4D 2? The first one was garbage, and I bet that I could easily beat the second one in 3 hours. Let me say one thing: silencers? are you kidding me? Yes silencers on the weapons are going to be a real help, even though its daylight and you are in full view of the zombies. Like they're going to introduce a stealth aspect, right!
greenberet [mail] Sep 18 2009, 05:53 am EDT
This is wrong. Banning games. Shouldn't they focus more on inmportant things - such as the fucking immigration. Too many Indians and Chinese in that place i heard.
Thrash: Real issues are too hard, games and gamers are easy targets....
DungeonRaider: It comes down to the lack of an 18+ rating for games in Aust...
