Activision Pulls German Edition of Wolfenstein

According to a report on pcgames.de, Activision Germany is forced to recall all German versions of the recently released shooter Wolfenstein. That's right, retailers were asked to remove the game from shelves.
While Activision has yet to offer an official statement on this, it is believed that the company had to recall the title due to the use of swastikas and similar symbols in the game.
We're still waiting for a response from Activision regarding this matter.

| I don't think it's all that ironic. To my knowledge neo-Nazism in Germany is as bad as anywhere else really -- only punks and pricks sign up for it, while every other German feels an immense sense of displacement with that part of their history. Once the word got out on what was going on in the SS, the German public were horribly disillusioned. [edit to clarify my point:] And thus people would still feel pretty damn sore about seeing Nazi villains displaying their swastikas. I mean, perform the Nazi salute in Berlin and you're practically asking to have the shit kicked out of you. |

| not really, just stupid. it's more like blaming the concept of modern nudity on greeks for appreciating the anatomy of the body and being a bit more pervy than "21 century morals" deem acceptable. just because a game accidentally gives you a glimpse of some ancient Hindu symbol, Hitler will almost surely not invade your body and force you to invade the world. |

| True, they did have brilliant military strategists. They also, however, had a huge head start because everyone else just ignored them while they slowly creeped through Europe, building momentum and amassing a rather powerful army. They had all the time in the world to scan the terrain and establish powerful defenses, build huge surpluses of powerful weaponry and probably send out a number of spies all over the world (because no one suspected them at first), all while the world just watched. Their two strongest allies were not easy to invade either. | ||

| Germany has tons of anti-nazi laws for virtually anything associated with nazis. So it's not that surprising that they banned a shooter that displays nazi stuff, even if they are the bad guys you're shooting. (Germany also bans games displaying blood, that's why the german C&C has black oil instead of red blood.) If Germany could completely erase the worlds memory of Nazis and WW2, I'm sure they'd do it in a heartbeat. |

| Well, maybe I do care a little. But there is nothing I can do to change their minds. I suppose they (the Germans) would like to forget their ‘glorious’ past but it ain’t that easy. Seems to me that it would be smarter to let people joke about it, rather then being extra paranoid and raise even more disturbing questions. |

| Well, for what its worth, this is one of the most crappiest shooters out there IMO. Thankfully I rented it. Magic powers borrowed from other games like Soul Reaver and Prey doesn't save it from mediocrity. Plus what's the deal with the lame sandbox element thrown in ?? So to all German FPS fans, you're not missing anything. |

| I was playing this the other night and wondered what they would replace all the swastikas with for germany. Cos even I know they not allowed in germany. So LOL at activision dumbasses. game sucks too. I went to germany last year and germans are still nazis even if they don't use the 'N' word, except now its Turks instead of Jews, all shoved onto housing estates and given minimum wage jobs. Germans just aren't nice ppl....you can't deny history. I'm english btw so may be a bit biased. |
