Elder Scrolls V Teaser
There's an Elder Scrolls novel ready to hit shelves in November and as it turns out it features a teaser for Elder Scrolls V. The book blurb supposedly says: "A novel that takes places forty-five years after the Oblivion Crisis, which is the story of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game and the expansion pack Shivering Isles. It partly bridges the gap for the next game, which is set 200 years after the Oblivion crisis."

The Elder Scrolls: Infernal City is going to be on sale as of November 27th.

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. It's pretty good they never turned this into an MMOG. Just hope the fifth installment ends up being less generic than its predecessor.

Source.

200 years later?
I wonder how much will be changed tech level wise, steampunkish/gunpowderish?
Ha well, let bring it on, lacking good rpg's.

I liked oblivion. Yeah it was repetitive and melee combat was awful. But that game was HUGE and thats why I loved it. If they maintain the level of content and add more and maybe even reduce repetitive nature I will play that game for ever.

BTW: I don't think that it should evolve that much. Fable I guess was the first to do that. But fantasy worlds shouldn't go through such drastic evolution. Adding new layers of depth sounds fun, but reinventing whole world? Sounds they could fail.
Sword Fight: Huge? Hardly. Give Morrowind a try. Oblivion feels like a th...
Alchi: Okay I'll try. Strange I haven't played it before.
Roland19: Morrowind is Oblivion x3 in terms of map size. Also, no dung...

Oh nooo ! :( I absolutely dread the hysteria surrounding Bethesda's mentally challenged free-roaming action-adventures. One Bethesda game is the equivalent of 10 nails in the RPG coffin. The horror...

Oblivion lacked depth in pretty much every possible way, but it is still the prettiest game world I have ever played in. Crysis may have had higher detail, but for me it was just a blast running around the world. I never played the main quest because I could tell after a couple missions that the story sucked. Honestly its sad it took me that long to figure it out. If they make the loot more interesting, and easier to mod it to have loot more like diablo, then I will play the shit out TES 5.

Note: I always played ranged characters cause they were too much fun, so I don't really care how good / bad melee is.

Morrowind was much better...
un om bun: Yes. They changed direction after that. The fuckers.
Vader: They changed the direction towards Oblivionism.
rapideyemovement: I consider tes3 to be one of the best games ever .

I loved the graphics and the general world design of Oblivion. But I'd have to agree. Morrowind itself was a better game. The world was huge (and awesomely great for it's time). A huge world doesn't make up for repetitive dungeons, limited creature types, mind numbing combat. I always played pure spell casters so I didn't need to swing a weapon. Even as a mage.. you essentially only needed one ranged combat spell and nothing else. Most other misc magic was effectively useless.

I played through the fighters guild quests, the started the mage guild (didn't touch the main quest) but the game was disappointing after Morrowind. Maybe Oblivion has good visuals, but Morrowind is way ahead with the Artistic design. Every town was different in Morrowind, while in Oblivion it was all Medieval style. And don't get me started on the RPG elements, and especially the difficulty in Oblivion, a 3 year old can finish the game without no trouble at all.

You know, I liked Oblivion WHILE I played it, but the story dragged on for a while and I never finished it. After the 10th freakin Oblivion Portal was shut, I got a little bored...btu that's because I always do EVERY side quest before the main quest when a game offers them up.

But, for all you Oblivion haters, try this. Play the "Dark Hand" assassin's quest line. It's the best story-line in the game and a really great one in general, and kind of creepy at parts. It gives the game a little bit of redemption.

The one thing I'll say is the game was WAY too easy. I tend to play stealth classes, and by the later half of the game, all I had to do was toss on Chameleon along with my my 75% chamelon shield and I could just attack enemies all day and never have them attack me. It was kind of stupid. You'd think they'd swing blindly at least.

Wow, 200 years after Oblivion. I thought they would pick up right after Oblivion, with the Empire in chaos.

200 years? Interesting. You gotta keep in mind technology these days develops at a faster rate, so they may really be not that far ahead in terms of Oblivion level tech.

Hopefully they take a cue from the community and this is the game that is really a hit

How do you determine from that bit of info that it's not going to be an MMO. It can very well still be an MMO, just set in the future. In fact, setting it centuries in the future can help gloss over a lot of details one would have to play though, allowing it to be more conducive to the kind of gameplay and constant story and lore adjustments seen in MMO's.
QuickBrownFox: It cant be an MMO because we would have heard more details a...

I for one loved Oblivion and look forward to seeing more of the same :)

The worst things in Oblivion were that everything was leveled, there weren't enough skills, and the world looked generic. There were only 5 weapons, they just changed looks as you leveled.

Make more Morrowind please!

i really wanted to like oblivion. but somehow every time i try to play it, i fall asleep

Just one simple request coming:

CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE, CHANGE THE ENGINE and CHANGE THE ENGINE.

Oops, there was more than one. Darn. Pardon my math!

I personally liked Oblivion. I will agree that the Oblivion Gates were extremely repetitious but I don't care what game you play combat is always repetitious. Swing your weapon, shoot your weapon, launch your spell, repeat ad nausea. My biggest complaint about Oblivion was the look of faces, people who are supposed to be attractive all looked like they were in their 90's and just plain scary. I didn't think the story was that bad, if they would've had fewer gates to close I think the story would have been considered better.
