The thread continues about the gamer's general disappointment with GameStop and it seems this wasn't the first time he had problems with the US retail chain. "I've been screwed out of pre-orders and sold 'new' games that were obviously used..."
So, if you don't have any choice, like this guy, and you have to purchase titles at GameStop, double-check the package next time, just in case.

| When I lived in the US I used to go to EB and Gamestop..both of them fucking suck and half the time the employees who work there dont know shit about games. I remember going in for resident evil 2 on gamecube and one of them said it never came out for gamecube.. wtf? same for the condemned PC version...they said it never came out on PC. Oh fuck and lets not forget if they have one last game copy out on the shelf and no new copies behind the desk they pull the disc out of drawer in a sleeve and sell it as fucking new. |

| They gut even new releases, unless it's a preorder or a triple-a first day thing. I remember buying some things brand new for the Gamecube and them pulling the disk out of a drawer. Thing was, the 'cube games were so small they tended to slide around alot in the standard-sized CD sleeves they used and, apart from a brand new game having scratches on it, this one also had slipped between the fold and gotten glue all over it. Lovely, huh? I also never liked the fact that you pretty much had to preorder everything. People have been getting on Nintendo for artificially reducing supply to increase demand for the Wii - Gamestop does this as a matter of standard business practice. They only order a few copies of any given game, and if it's not a AAA list title they sometimes don't order any at all unless it's been preordered. Why bother doing that, says I, when I could just order it online and have it shipped directly to my house? |

| 1. They put the disc behind the counter to prevent theft. Notice how all of the boxes in store say "empty box" 2. Gamestop sucks balls. They have crappy employees and shitty prices. |

| both gamestop and ebgames are disgraces. worst retail operations i've ever had to experience. completely disorganized, employees that think they are hotter than shit and yet completely fucking retarded at the same time. Simple answer to the problem though - simply refuse to give them your money. Tell anyone you know that buys games to avoid them like the plague. Particularly in regards to PC games, ebgames does absolutely nothing except hurt the PC game market - the rest of the store is all slick & presentation, while the PC game section is a half-falling apart, completely disorganized mess that does nothing but scream 'dont buy these games'. Shameful - even worse is that there never seems to be any management whatsoever around (or anyone over the drinking age for that matter) working the stores. No wonder things are in such a pathetic state, when you have a bunch of teenagers running the shop, what else do you expect? It's like trying to buy games from their bedroom or something, and about as organized. |

| I agree with everything you all said. This is the worst chain retail store I've ever experienced. Even worst than Walmart! My personal favorite is going in there for a specific game you want *new* and they won't stop trying to sell you a used copy. If they finally give up, they ask you if you want other used games instead. I've actually had them argue with me about why I want the new copy! | ||

| 1. How do they stay in business with such obviously crappy business models (I assume lack of competition) 2. Why not order things online or over Steam? 3. Did they have the new Battletoads for the Wii? |

| I work for a chain of stores in Ireland that rent and sell movies and games, the store I'm in is in the centre of the capital. After I got hired I forced the boss to get a colour photocopier (at the company's expense) so we didn't have to even unwrap any games or DVDs anymore. Within a month there were hundreds of compliments on the new system and I got a 50% raise =D Turns out a Gamestop nearby used to just put the games they had into a drawer without sleeves if they ran out, and every single copy of every game was gutted and put on the shelf. Plus I hate the price tags they use, they always leave a sticky residue on the case. You don't get that with a sealed copy :) |

| Never encountered any probs with EBGames over here, mind you I've only ever bought one game from them. | ||

| I can't stand them and refuse to shop there. What's hard for me is that the closest EBGames used to be Walden's Software waaay back in the day (18 years ago.) I learned everything about computers and games from the awesome employees there and I can still remember their faces.... EBgames is not even a fraction of fraction of that store... |

| We don't have any GameStops here that I know of, but we do have lots of EB Games. I used to like EB Games, they actually used to be my favourite game store _before_ they started gutting the cases and putting the discs in their behind-counter sleeves, before they started shafting trade-in costs, and certainly before the majority of their staff members became utter assholes who give nothing but mis-information and are full of themselves. A month and a half ago, they tried to rip me off on the retail cost of the Shivering Isles retail disc (Xbox 360) and kept trying to swindle me into buying the Game of the Year Edition, and this was over multiple stores. For anyone who wants to read that harrowing tale, you can do so here: http://arbitersjudgement.blogspot.com/2007/10/eb-g Ironically, I found Shivering Isles at a new EB I had never been before, it was factory sealed, competitively priced, and the clerk was nice and friendly. Basically though, I stick to Best Buy and Future Shop these days. |

| If you buy online you always get factory sealed only way to be sure. | ||
