Yes, but the story remains serious and it tries to remain serious throughout. It just seems ridiculous when the scientist are talking about a mysterious alien race...

It does seem a little lame at first, but you realize the old XCOM fans would've gone absolutely apeshit if the Sectoids in the new game didn't still resemble 'grey men'.

Firaxis chose to stay faithful to XCOM: UFO Defense. I can't fault them for that.
