ianal, however, I've seen some talk about trademarks and their laws by actual lawyers, and common words by themselves can not be legally trademarked. For instance, Microsoft does NOT have a trademark on "Windows", it has a trademark on "Microsoft Windows". Of course, MS has enough lawyers, it's hard for most people to fight them.
No different for this situation. Sure they could trademark "Candy Crush Saga", but not "Saga", and not "Candy". So if some idiot screwed up and gave them a trademark on those individual words, it's bogus and can be fought. Of course, you'd have to endure the legal process, but it can be done.

Take everything I said in here with a grain of salt, because like I said, ianal, and this info is second or third hand.
