» All About Assassin's Creed II on ActionTrip

If all of that's not enough, there's the incredible choice of things to do from exciting story-related tasks to intense and challenging side missions. One of the most compelling things for me was venturing deep into secret parts of the cities to complete special Prince of Persia like challenges. Suffice it to say, every venture in this regard is rather rewarding. If you play these you'll know what I mean. It also represents a nice change of pace, beyond all the killings and rooftop chases. While we're on the subject, other city-based side-missions include races, courier missions, different assassination contracts, searching for missing codex pages (these are connected to the main story mind you) and so on.

We admire the great deal of effort that went into the game's art and overall visual presentation. Florence, Venice and other prominent locations of Italy were recreated with incredible devotion to detail. Famous landmarks, buildings of historical significance and other locations simply look astonishing (although you'll only get to fully appreciate their beauty if you're playing on a huge TV screen). The sound effects and the quality of the voice acting match the visual splendor of this game. There's simply nothing bad I can point out about the audio or the visual aspect of Assassin's Creed 2. Good work on that, Ubisoft.

There was one glitch that bothered us a bit. The map system gets a bit choppy every time you access it. It's not something to be concerned over, but it can get a bit annoying at times. Otherwise, this is a technically sound game.

Most gamers are bound to like this one. If you're a fan of the previous game, there's no doubt you're going to enjoy the ride. On the other hand, if you were disappointed with the repetitive mechanics of the original, all of the improvements made in the sequel should restore your faith in the franchise - it certainly has for us. Taking into account the enormous choice of challenges, missions, the new economic system and other enhancements, Assassin's Creed 2 will be remembered as one of the finest sandbox-based action adventures we've seen for quite some time.

The ending is, of course, something I do not wish to spoil for you guys, but it needs to be said that Assassin's Creed 2 comes to a decent conclusion. So much so that I cannot wait to find out what the folks at Ubisoft Montreal have prepared for the franchise's next outing.

What about the retarded baddies-wait-around-to-be-killed-one-by-one combat? Huh, Vader?
Vader [STAFF] [mail] Nov 20 2009, 05:22 am EST
Look, we are all retarded baddies waiting around to be killed one by one, especially in combat.

Besides, the combat in Assassin's Creed was always cool to me. And they don't always wait you know...

Did you get the bonus content from the white or black edition pre-orders, Vader?

If so, how meaningful / worthwhile is it?

I didn't pre-order, and I'm debating on whether or not I should wait for the bonus quests to be released as DLC before playing the game, as Ubisoft Montreal said they would.
Vodoo [mail] Nov 20 2009, 06:23 am EST
don't you always rent before buying ?

i know she should always shower before i go down on her.
Cheddar [mail] Nov 20 2009, 07:14 am EST
I'm gonna rent regardless (although AC2 might take longer to play than one rental period, from what I hear). I just don't want to have to give the game a second play-through just to do the bonus quests -- I'd rather do them on the first play-through.

But I'm not gonna bother waiting for them to be released as DLC (and thus waiting to play AC2) if the bonus quests are trivial.
PanteraFan666 [mail] Nov 20 2009, 08:46 am EST
I got the game, and i agree 100%. Very good.
Myst [mail] Nov 20 2009, 09:26 am EST
The grammatical content in this article is surprisingly satisfactory. Well done Mr. Vader, well done.

Thank you mysterious Canadian reader.

How is this game rate lower than batman?

Either this is underrated or batman is overrated..........or both.

If I was reviewing the game I'll probably give it 9.9 or maybe even a 10. Find me an action adventure game that have this much gameplay and story!

The texture maybe a little on the low side but the animation and the emotions on the character's face was some of the best in years!

The story rival that of Deus Ex and the voice acting that present it were impeccable. I know I maybe a little bias due to this is close to perfection in my mind but don't you think 9.5 would've been a fairer score?

You never did answer my question about the bonus content, Vader.

adfoam [mail] Nov 20 2009, 05:23 pm EST
Not to mention the Uplay feature Ubisoft added with AC2. Extra Assassin's tomb, more throwing knives, etc. One thing I hate about the map feature it doesnt mark landmarks, you have to locate stuff for a side quest.
Satanicat [mail] Nov 20 2009, 06:56 pm EST
Do you guys ever do PS3 reviews? Or just biased towards 360 and PC games?
Amok [mail] Nov 20 2009, 08:07 pm EST
Nice review. GT.com's other criticism was that the villa started to roll in heaps of cash when you'd start to have a larger population, more than you could.
Hmm, but that doesn't bother me none. I'm abso-deffo getting this game.

Do so hope the boring rate is way down. I struggled to finish the original because it got so repetitive. That and combat was frustrating.
The Heart Of Darkness [mail] Nov 20 2009, 08:44 pm EST
It won't reel in the big bucks, reason:

Not enough promotion like the first one (no Jade videos)
The Heart Of Darkness [mail] Nov 20 2009, 08:46 pm EST
Oh, and the comic thing was pretty lowlife by the way.
SpaceMonkey [mail] Nov 21 2009, 05:34 am EST
You know what I noticed? Vader always avoid the tough questions.
Vodoo [mail] Nov 21 2009, 07:26 am EST
i know what you mean, i sent him a letter about an eventual foursome and he never replied.
Marku5K [mail] Nov 21 2009, 07:41 am EST
Vader i'm booored to hell, give me some god damn news, i'm going crazy in this small, white hospital room.
Vader: You're not contagious, are you?
Marku5K: nope, just some kidney problems that's all
Vader: Shit. Hope it's nothing serious.
Marku5K: hope to get out in 2 or 3 days
musikreck [mail] Nov 21 2009, 11:28 am EST
mmm... 15th century prostitutes....
PanteraFan666 [mail] Nov 22 2009, 04:24 pm EST
Well one thing's for sure, this isn't a game that can be beat in 5 hours, itsa long and enjoyable game.
Barzenak42 [mail] Nov 22 2009, 06:11 pm EST
Cool...but I have the first one on the 360 to beat yet so maybe pick it up later.
Vader [STAFF] [mail] Nov 23 2009, 12:54 am EST
Then you have a long journey ahead of you.
