The very mechanics of the gameplay and the AI are passable. The scripted nature of Altair's acrobatics (the name of the assassin) can be quite annoying, especially when he jumps on the nearby basket just because it's there.
The much-talked-about chase mechanics and the heavy presence of the crowd does help the atmosphere, but the chases get (yep, you've guessed it) so repetitive after a while, they become another choir in trying to get to see what happens next in the story.
In the end, I felt like Ubisoft Montreal has made this game exclusively to be shown at gaming conventions. They have this great tech demo, this one looping level complete with cool graphics and gameplay mechanics, but they ultimately had no idea what to do with it. They just kept on going with these derivative missions until you become fed up with it.
It's either that or you approach this game with a preconceived notion that there is gold hidden underneath all this generic mission design. If you are that dedicated, then more power to you. I am not. I wouldn't buy this game for myself.
Then again, you will ultimately make your own decision. Mine is but to tell you what I thought, and how I felt without trying to be pretentious enough as to assume that I can be too professional about it.

ACTIONTRIP SCORE 6.9 Above Average Great combat, animation, story and dialogue, beautiful graphics (if you can take it out of context); The mission design is one big joke - what you do in the tutorial, you will be doing for a hefty portion of this game, the scripted acrobatics do take some serious getting used to; every single facet of AC feels derivative and repetitive, even the good stuff.
