Since we mentioned allies, I have to say I wasn't entirely pleased with how the devs handled friendly AI. During shootouts some of my companions got in my why and winded up with explosives charges stuck to their heads, which I intended to hurl at the nearby enemy guard tower. Normally, I would've chalked that one up to bad luck, but it happened quite a few times. Enemy AI also seems to have difficulties using available cover - they would get confused sometimes and just foolishly plunge to their deaths. This wasn't a frequent occurrence. Still, it did happen from time to time.
The multiplayer allows 16 players on a server at once and there are six different online modes. Unlockable characters from the single-player can be chosen in multiplayer. Gamers can enjoy Team Anarchy (kind of like Team Deathmatch) and a CTF type of match. In multiplayer, players may enjoy some of the areas from the main campaign Eos, Parker, etc. There's also the Wrecking Crew mode, where the objective is to cause as much damage with a determined amount of resources.
We didn't get into this one expecting an experience that would revolutionize the action genre as we know it. The point of the matter is that we were still pleasantly surprised with how much Red Faction: Guerrilla can be fun thanks to the huge selection of weapons and other "toys" that can be used to help the rebels, as you demolish your way to freedom. The graphics and the audio are pretty standard, so not much can be said there. The explosions look great, so it's actually all about the physics, as we've already explained.
Bottom line; if a decent, demolition-oriented action game is what you seek, chances are you won't be disappointed with this game. Don't expect much beyond that.

ACTIONTRIP SCORE 7.6 Good The endless destruction guarantees many hours of fun, upgrades and weapons, reasonably lengthy single-player; Story, AI's not too bright, gets dreary even with the story-focused missions. RATINGS GUIDE |
