What we saw as a bit of a problem during the single-player is the reliability of friendly AI - your wingmen, to be exact. Often enough, players are forced to counter multiple land, naval and air units at once.
Sometimes it's almost impossible to do this on your own, which is where your trustworthy wingmen should come in. Sadly, they don't always see their orders through. In fact, most of the time when you tell them to take out specific targets, it either takes them too long to do so or they simply ignore the order.
During the game's competitive multiplayer there's some fun to be experienced thanks to the cool Team Deathmatch mode and 19 maps, all taken from the main campaign. Dogfights are extremely enjoyable, more so than those you undertake in solo mode.
There are many aspects in this game that guarantee a decent experience no matter where your preferences lie. For some reason though, it doesn't quite push the envelope in terms of gameplay and it does feel slightly less entertaining than, say, Ace Combat 6. It does, however, stand as one of the best-looking aerial combat games on the market and we do recommend you give it a whirl.

ACTIONTRIP SCORE 8.3 Very Good Maps look sweet, cool and exciting single-player missions, a wide selection of planes, altogether quite fun; Short-ish single-player, wingmen not very helpful. RATINGS GUIDE |
