» All About Tony Hawk's Project 8 on ActionTrip

Through-out the Tony Hawk series they usually managed to get music right to the point where it has become one of the hallmarks of the series. They certainly don't disappoint in this area. They have licensed a ton a great tracks as there ends up being about 40-50 songs to skate to.

Unfortunately, there are a few points in game that have not been improved. This time around the multiplayer doesn't add much to the game as it has in previous Tony Hawk titles. In fact, it is even missing one of my favorite modes: Capture the Flag. For whatever reason, it no longer exists Along with a few others). That being said, they did add one new multiplayer game mode called "Walls". Basically, you create a never-ending wall behind you as you skate forward. The wall continues to grow the longer you stay alive. The object is to try and cut off the other skaters and get them to crash into your wall (think Tron cycles but on a skateboard). While this mode is fun, the graphics are some of the worst in the game.

Finally, the levels feel really vanilla and under-designed. If you have diligently played through the entire series, then the level designs here will be old hat for you. It is like they tricked out a Geo Metro with a sweet stereo system, in-dash LCD, and an Xbox 360 in the trunk. Then they gave it a really cool paint job to top it off. But in the end, while the extras are nice, you are still driving a Geo (My Geo gets over 30 MPH and I look hot in it so, STFU -Ed)!

Overall, Tony Hawk's Project 8 is an enjoyable experience. However, for all the time they have spent improving the graphics, physics, and new Create-A-Trick, I do wish they had devoted more time and effort into the level design. If you are a casual fan, you will have no problem jumping in and having fun. The game is friendly and forgiving. The more hard core fan will enjoy the new Trick mode but will find the rest of the experience might get boring faster then you would expect.

HIGHS
This is still, fundamentally, Tony Hawk skating, which is always a good thing. Multiplayer "Walls" is a great way to play online. The graphics have improved by leaps and bounds. Create-A-Trick makes this game worth playing;

LOWS
Level design is sub-par. You can't help but feel like you have done it all before. It's missing, fun, multiplayer modes from previous version. Stripped-down Create-a-Skater and Create-a-Park.
