» All About WET on ActionTrip

Aside from the irritatingly old-fashioned bullet-time shooting sequences, the combat has its appeal. Charging your attacks to perform more lethal moves works okay and there's also a range of quick-time events to go through (praise the lord, how would we ever manage without those). Rubi uses a combination of sword moves and gun-happy leaps, slides and wall-runs, which would make Neo and Morpheus proud. Yes, I did get some entertainment out of this, because no matter how you swing it, that type of action is still fun. What bugs the crap out of me is that it felt like I was playing Max Payne, Ninja Gaiden and Tomb Raider at the same time. Why Tomb Raider? You see, the game also features a fair amount of climbing, platform-jumping, shimmying and swinging from cliff edges. Woo-hooo!

What I liked about this game is just the seamless action and the generally simple gameplay (simple in a good way). The more you shoot and slice, the more it gets fun. If we overlook the somewhat clichéd level design, I did find the game's presentation amusing and interesting. Also, I've come to appreciate the developer's ambition to incorporate witty cut-scenes and retro commercials during loadtimes. Another positive aspect is the music, which fits the ambience perfectly and actually sounds cool. The soundtrack was created by Brian composed and electronic musician LeBarton (mostly recognized for his cooperation with artist like Beck).

When it comes down to choosing a decent action game to play this fall, you really should think twice about going for WET. There isn't much to entangle you here besides a butt-load of unappealing characters, a badly written story and a bunch of generic-looking levels crammed with heaps of baddies who can't wait to join in the oh-so-familiar bullet-time festivities. Granted, it's just an average action game and perhaps it should be treated as such, so I suppose some people could find it enjoyable if they determined to play something before more serious releases pop up in the coming months.

WET's distinct over-the-top action is ironically its primary weakness. The stylish presentation, coupled with constant bloodbath, loses its charm very quickly. Also, it's not 'wet' enough... if you no what I mean. So, don't mislead us perverts like that!

I'm getting flashbacks of all kinds here... names like Max Payne, Tomb Raider and The Matrix leap to mind, technically inconsistent, boring level design, boring story, boring characters.

You can cut and paste this review for wolverine. It's almost the exact same shit.
  Superastic: Dood, Wolverine rocked!

This game doesn't rock anything. More importantly, it's not wet.

Well, it does not happen often, but I agree with you on this one.

In fact, I feel you are still very generous with your score.

Even WET shit looks better than DRY shit. And this one is very dry indeed.

So, Bethesda publishes a game with a lame story, bad writing, and cardboard characters.

Gee, sounds pretty much just like all of their games, huh.

You know, except that this time, there isn't a hugely overrated open-world to distract everyone from just how mediocre the rest of the game is.
un om bun: Ain't that the truth !

We didn't need this nor did we need Stranglehold. Max Payne already perfect this kind of gameplay. Not to mention the modifications that are out there.

I honestly don't know how anyone could have expected anything more than that from the trailers. The game looked boring to me in the trailers, and apparently the result was the same. Glad I never even considered buying it.

On a side note: please don't let me be right and have Borderlands turns out to be shallow and boring after 5 hours. I want that game to be good :(.

"Bad" depends on how desperate you are. (I'm sure you are familiar with that). I've been so desperate that I've dug through the second tier games now like Velvet Assassin and breaking out Far Cry 2 again. Unless something good comes along then I'll probably play this game too. It shames me to support these efforts with my money, but I need fresh games all the time.
