Speaking of Corporations, they come as a rather nifty feature, allowing you to frequently earn extra money from other nations (rather gaining the usual influence). Unfortunately, it appears that seeking and handling Corporations was intended strictly for those players who are extremely well-versed with the ways of Civilization IV. As such, Corporations, at times, feel like an obsolete component of gameplay.
Don't expect any visuals steps ups. After all, this is an expansion pack, not a sequel. The audio, however, is top-notch and deserves praise all the way - pretty much in the same degree as in the original. Fine music and a satisfying range of sound effects can be heard throughout the entire game.
Overall, Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword is an enjoyable expansion pack and should definitely be on your shopping list if you've played the original Civ IV. Of course, the only thing that worries me in the end is whether or not the title justifies its $30 price-tag. In some ways it does, since it delivers a fair amount of content and new elements. Still, many of these elements seem like an experiment gone bad, as opposed to a decent new addition to the gameplay. As a result sometimes it seems you'd be better off just playing the original. (Great. My wife was looking for the final excuse for divorce. Emotional abandonment due to a video game should be just the thing - Ed)

ACTIONTRIP SCORE 7.8 Good A nice polished addition to the original, enough new content for fans to enjoy, the audio is good as before; Certain aspects of the add-on just don't fit right with the Civ IV gameplay mechanics. RATINGS GUIDE |
