It's probably safe to say that even once you've gone through the entire championship, you're gonna want to get back to the game again for several very good reasons. First of all, completing various racing challenges unlocks additional vehicle categories such as Group B and Expert Championships, both of which encompass classic rally cars (each with its own carefully defined physics) - a cool extra for true-hearted hardcore rally fans as well. Thankfully the development team also reduced certain impractical elements from CMR 3 such as excessive spinning on tarmac and asphalt. It's no biggie, but it feels a bit more realistic and straightforward, that's all.
With high quality titles such as Colin McRae Rally 3 and Colin McRae Rally 04, and with TOCA Race Driver 2 just around the corner, Codemasters appears to have established a recognizable reputation in the racing genre. If there are any tangible disadvantages in Colin McRae Rally 04, I have to say I may have missed them. Fair enough, the somewhat sharp learning curve could avert some players. Average gamers won't be immersed as quickly as those who are used to earlier editions of Colin McRae Rally. The authenticity of vehicle physics may be too much for some to bear. Also, for some fascinating reason, the PC version shipped with a $39.99 price tag which is twice the amount players had to shell out for the Xbox version ($19.99).
![]() 9.0 Excellent Quite simply, you won't find a more realistic rally simulation, new vehicles, subtle gameplay changes, improved physics and car models, high replay value; A few slip ups from the previous game still linger, no additional music, things like trees are still 2D background sprites, poor ground textures in some areas.
