Excellent

HIGHS
Quite simply, you won't find a more realistic rally simulation, new vehicles, subtle gameplay changes, improved physics and car models, high replay value;

LOWS
A few slip ups from the previous game still linger, no additional music, things like trees are still 2D background sprites, poor ground textures in some areas.

» All About Colin McRae Rally 04 on ActionTrip

It's probably safe to say that even once you've gone through the entire championship, you're gonna want to get back to the game again for several very good reasons. First of all, completing various racing challenges unlocks additional vehicle categories such as Group B and Expert Championships, both of which encompass classic rally cars (each with its own carefully defined physics) - a cool extra for true-hearted hardcore rally fans as well. Thankfully the development team also reduced certain impractical elements from CMR 3 such as excessive spinning on tarmac and asphalt. It's no biggie, but it feels a bit more realistic and straightforward, that's all.

With high quality titles such as Colin McRae Rally 3 and Colin McRae Rally 04, and with TOCA Race Driver 2 just around the corner, Codemasters appears to have established a recognizable reputation in the racing genre. If there are any tangible disadvantages in Colin McRae Rally 04, I have to say I may have missed them. Fair enough, the somewhat sharp learning curve could avert some players. Average gamers won't be immersed as quickly as those who are used to earlier editions of Colin McRae Rally. The authenticity of vehicle physics may be too much for some to bear. Also, for some fascinating reason, the PC version shipped with a $39.99 price tag which is twice the amount players had to shell out for the Xbox version ($19.99).

Trust me when i say this is SHIT

I am a big fan and serious racing fanatic and this game just doesnt cut it-
For one this shit contains just a part of class B cars that makes it about 4 extra cars-
Colin mcrae 3 had better handling than this
For goshsakes i cant even keep to the road with my SE MoMO force-logitech wheel
If you want rally go for VRally 3 or buy Cmr 3 where the handling is better and mod support id higher-

DO NOT BUY THIS SHIT

They say they implemented the four wheel control axes in the game-it still feels like driving a pole on ice-
  deniz@195.174.66.70: vrally3? lol! good one :)
SaM i AM [mail] Apr 12 2004, 03:15 pm EDT
Hey m8 watch where ya step-
i might not know shit according to ya cos i tested cmr3 before you goddamn well came to know abt it-
And the handling is better...in order to make cmr4 more force feedback friendly, they made the car stick to the road less...its like riding butter on ice i say mucho.....
Now go and dunk yer head in ice-
SaM i AM [mail] Apr 13 2004, 08:46 am EDT
Trite but true -its just a laugh....too many sods like you pike off at the forums too...cant help it...Rally racing in CG's going down-no point in jerking off the graphics-sim rally is lost
