Okay

HIGHS
Three completely unique factions accommodate to all styles of play, plenty of skirmish maps, customizable civilizations, decent multiplayer, a solid variety of technologies and units;

LOWS
None of which make up for an ultimately disappointing single-player campaign, occasional pathfinding issues, choppy framerate and utterly maddening unit voiceovers.

» All About Empire Earth III on ActionTrip

Players who are into multiplayer matches should be able to enjoy Empire Earth III. There's enough customization options, different units and maps to allow for some decent sessions. Some time will pass before the game's online aspect gets going, but from what we've gathered, the variety of units and unique aspects of each faction should appeal to most strategy buffs.

It's a shame the same thing cannot be said for the single-player. With nothing to play aside from the unexciting World Domination and Skirmish modes, I honestly cannot say this game is worth your time and money. Now, as you know, a half-way decent plot doesn't necessarily constitute a good strategy game. Rome: Total War has virtually no story, but the historical depth of the main campaign, intricate gameplay and epic atmosphere is more than enough to entangle players. Accenting the World Domination mode, without any backdrop or narrative, was quite simply a huge mistake. With nothing to lure you in -- aside from a variety of units, a few nice tunes and a solid multiplayer -- it would be best if you skipped this one (it's not like you don't have anything better to play).

If you're out for a good RTS, with an engaging single-player, you'd be far better off choosing titles like C&C3: Tiberium Wars, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts and so on.

Mad Doc is losing the fight with Chronic Sequelitis and will close it's gates to make room for young and healthy game developers. Vader, I applaud you for your strength and patience. Me, I haven't been able to play the demo for 10 minutes.
Vodoo [mail] Nov 17 2007, 06:35 am EST
tried the first, tried the second....the fuck would i want to try the third when there are 3 year old games that have more gameplay action and better graphics.

Settlers 6 is a very good RTS for those who enjoyed AoE and have at least half an hour to spare.
doomsday [mail] Nov 17 2007, 07:32 am EST
Wow wee! this game must be reeeeaall sucky!!
MoCus [mail] Nov 17 2007, 07:44 am EST
I played this and it sucked BADLY...

the first EE was amazing the second was not bad and this one is a pile of rubbish...
the most repeatitive game EVER! every level you exactly the same.... and if thats not worse enough i found the animations to be very glitchy, the totaly population to be too low for some massive fun, the AI to be VERY stupid and lame e.g: on my first game on HARD difficulity when i was already at the future epoch (no cheats involved... really) ALL the other empires were just Medival... and the game invantions are stupid. my FUTURE armies coulnt defeat medival ones when i chose to auto-resolve a conflict... WHATS UP WITH THAT!?!?!? if i were to play for real my builders could destroy them single handedly...

if i ever meet whoever thought of this game in the street i'll be sure to beat him up good.

this title deserves way less than 57 score

A pity. I'm always drawn to the "campaign world map" concept, victories that influence your position and have an effect on subsequent missions, so it's disappointing to see that this game sucks monkey trumpets. Not surprising though.
pjnt [mail] Nov 17 2007, 08:27 am EST
This game blows. Don't buy it, look at it or even mention you've heard of it unless it's to tell someone it blows. I'm getting a bit ticked at spending on unstable pieces of fermenting camel dung these producers/developers want to pass off as games. 57 seems about right, there is nothing here which would make me consider it a 58.
Sword Fight [mail] Nov 17 2007, 05:55 pm EST
Haha, pwned.
Cheddar [mail] Nov 17 2007, 07:01 pm EST
Welp, I'm gonna go play some more Dark Crusade. Still have a few races I need to beat the campaign mode with.
Hurion [mail] Nov 18 2007, 04:51 am EST
Good review, none of the others have been worth a dime compared to any other RTS released around the same time.

Seconding Dark Crusade, that game is fantastic (although I think I might prefer Company of Heroes, I haven't played its expansion pack though). Relic is #1 when it comes to RTS, they made the Homeworld series, DoW, and CoH.
Bigolli [mail] Nov 18 2007, 05:21 am EST
So why, if this game is so lame, did you guys have this (and still partially do) on the background of your main site?
I downloaded the demo purely based on seeing that. I thought the game must be amazing to make it as a background. But to be honest I never got around to installing it because I'm stuck into TF2 =D
MoCus: cuz they are getting payed to put it on display...
doomsday [mail] Nov 18 2007, 12:39 pm EST
I loved DarkCrusade!! Which is ur FAV. Race!!??
Cheddar: I'm a huge, shameless, Tau whore.
PerfectXtreme [mail] Nov 21 2007, 02:06 pm EST
I'd have to say Blizzard holds the RTS King position. Relic is very good and very close second. Don't think anything will beat Starcraft or WC3 anytime soon. Hell I don't think Starcraft 2 will even be all that great (but I hope to be wrong)

Anyway this game (Empire Earth 3) Is complete garbage. I'm amazed it even got 57. Its barely playable. It runs like ASS on my machine which plays Crysis on high settings at 20-30 fps. Thankfully games like this are why torrents are around and why I only actually pay for less than half the software I "demo". Download, play for 1-2 hours... and delete. I for one am sick of spending 50+ on games that are so completely terrible I can't manage more than 1 or 2 hours with them.
Cheddar: You can only say Blizzard is the RTS king as long as you onl...
Amok: Cheddar, ditto.
obikka1: Even GPG's beaten the boring shit, generic, repetitive, low ...
Amok [mail] Nov 30 2007, 06:16 pm EST
Even if the graphics were already sorta outdated when I played the original EE, I still liked doing so a lot.

Now, when I tried EEII... I tell ya, if games could make me puke, that would be one of them.

And now this. The screenshots promptly let me know that the series wasn't gonna recuperate.
Furthermore, you say there's no storyline? That's the last straw -- I'm not even gonna torrent download this PoS.
