![]() 7.9 Good Enjoying the deep and open-ended world, improved combat, many quests and characters to interact with, cool soundtrack, detailed visuals... ... if you have a powerful enough rig that is; other engine-related glitches, AI and other assorted bugs, free-roaming can get tedious, terrible voice "acting." In addition, the game was choppy as hell on a top-end AMD-based rig as well (with most of the visual settings maxed out). The constant freezes during the loading of new game areas even on a system with 2GB of fast RAM were frustrating to say the least.

Gothic 3 has an admirable soundtrack, featuring numerous themes that set the right tone for a fantasy RPG. All of these were performed by a real-life symphonic orchestra by the way. The excellent score is, sadly, accompanied by crappy voice acting and unbelievably corny screams and shrieks coming from certain characters (Orcs, mercs, thieves, etc.).
When you take the time to install the necessary updates and fixes, Gothic 3 becomes a highly involving action RPG with a variety of quests to complete, an endless number of unique-looking locations to explore and plenty of characters to interact with. Although you won't find a lot of character depth and the back-story certainly seems vague at the outset, there's still enough to reel you in. It's important to emphasize that Gothic 3 becomes progressively interesting after you've spent a few days immersed in its intriguing world of interactivity, exploration and combat. The open-ended world is teeming with foes to fight and treasures to discover. Furthermore, the game brings forth many new fighting styles, spells and other abilities to use during your adventures. Again, I definitely recommend you try the game, but I also stress that you're gonna need a solid rig as well as the latest release of the game.
The lads at Piranha Bytes must do their best to iron out the aforementioned issues as soon as possible. In the US, Gothic never really got the feedback as it did in Europe. Gothic 3 was supposed to change things. It was meant to be the ultimate installment that would bring the franchise closer to the US gamers, but given all the technical errors I'm not sure that's possible.

| ive heard from others things which were confirmed in this review. and the score is quite high for some of the problems the game has. (but thats mostly cuz you're an RPG freak........like me) ive had a few moments of experience with the game and i can say this: nice to have on the shelves but not the best in the genre. |

None the less, I'll have to wait until i upgrade my rig w/a new processor and another 512 stick of ram. =/ [Edit] But i guess i could get the expansion now..[/Edit] |

| Gothic 3 is still a good game. If you're a fan of the series, you definitely shouldn't miss this. But it's a damn shame Piranha Bytes didn't invest enough time to polish the game techincally. | ||

| If its a JoWood or an Atari game, just forget about buying the game for at least 6 months of its release. The games are buggy as hell. Every freakin game. Its a wonder, really. How could they possibly spoil every game of theirs?? They should learn from Valve. No matter how much delayed the game gets, its the end result that matters. Would people stop buying HL3 if some smartass stole the source code again and got delayed for another year? No. People would wait and purchase it 'whenever' its available. Why the need to rush the game to meet deadlines? It doesnt matter. | ||

| This is a very fair review in my opinion. Gothic 3 is filled with incredible amounts of gaming goodness but at the same time the flaws keep poking through the sweetness to pierce your cheeks when you least expect it ("Spring Surprise" ;o). The only thing I can't relate to in the review in the socalled "crappy voice acting" but I guess that is a matter of taste really (son of dubious hearing :o). |

| Had to start all over again like 4 times till i figured out how not to screw up the main quests, god i miss the simple yet so resourcefull old gothic 1,2 and the expansion, plus the wanted to compete with oblivion...WHAT DA????you cant compete with that man...no wonder the game is full of bugs and glitches | ||

| Considering NWN2 got a similiarly high score and its forums are full of threads about how shitty and broken the game is, I'm undecided which of the two to buy. I need a new RPG to carry me through the winter, and Oblivion was, imo, the biggest disappointment of the year. They just don't make RPGs like they used to. :/ | ||

| My game gets pretty unplayable (euro version, I wasted money getting it imported from my danish friend damnit) after twenty minutes. Whats with the main character dieing to *anything* that gets the first attack in, really. Theres "realistic" healthbars and then theres "life" healhbars, where people die because they get poked by an arrow or hacked at with a sword. I spend atleast 30% of my time loading, its a nightmare reserved for saturday mornings. | ||
| BadCRC* | [mail] Nov 16 2006, 09:00 am EST | |
| It's a still pretty good game! The Demo is enjoyable :) I'll probably will be getting this! |

| Is it just me or do the textures look dated? Like from last year, at least. I get that impression. From the images, anyway. That killed the thought of getting that game, that's for sure. |

| Gothic 3 is a total RIP OFF. I would like my money back (ALL 50 DOLLARS). The only reason I liked Gothic was for its real-life quality that I found in Gothic I, II, and even the extension pack - NIght of the Raven. But Gothic 3? What on EARTH were they thinking of!?! Why did they have to mess with success and reduce it to a CARICATURE of a game. It's worse than cartoons, it's HORRIBLE! To repeat: I really would like my money back. | ||
