» All About Mass Effect on ActionTrip

Mass Effect effectively blends action with RPG elements and wraps it all up in an unforgettable sci-fi backdrop. Character voices, sound effects and the musical score are all top-of-the-line - worthy of big-budget Hollywood flicks.

New moments such as the enhanced inventory and combat interface (as well as a redesigned Frogger-style version of the Decryption mini-game) are all welcomed improvements over the Xbox 360 version.

It terms of visuals, Mass Effect delivers in every sense. The environment and objects in general feature the same textures, albeit this time everything looks considerably crispier than before (of course, largely thanks to PC's high-res modes). Trouble is, it's a bit of a burden for modest rigs. Actually, the frame-rate drops even on more powerful PCs. If nothing else, the good news is that the infamous 360 texture-loading is practically a thing of the past in ME PC.

Mass Effect will undoubtedly be patched some time in the near future, which should hopefully resolve the frame-rate issues. When that happens and when BioWare finally releases the downloadable content, Mass Effect PC should be an even more rewarding package for gamers.

In its current state, it comes highly recommended too. Occasional technical glitches and frame-rate drops are a small price to pay for a genuinely thrilling space saga. Whether you've already played the game on the Xbox 360 or if you are completely unfamiliar with the universe, Mass Effect PC is a title you simply have to own.

Locales and some sub-quests still feel a bit generic, new skills, classes, weapons or items wouldn't have gone amiss, occasional frame-rate issues.
