» All About Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer on ActionTrip

Improvements on the visual and audio are miniscule, but sufficient enough to make things look a tad prettier than in NWN 2. On top of that, I was most pleased that they finally added new tracks to the game's original score, hence there will be very few repeating melodies from the first NWN and NWN 2.

Also, with all the NWN 2 patches applied, everything mostly works better than before; but alas still not without errors. Certain bugs are present and may spoil your experience on a number of occasions. Personally, during one of my quests I couldn't pass through one of the shadow portals. Getting back to a saved game solved the problem, albeit I did experience the issue one more time.

Overall, this add-on is a job well done compared to some of Obsidian's earlier work. It's certainly an expansion pack worth playing, with a variety of features that actually improve the gameplay quite a bit. The addition of dark powers broadens the depth of the game and blends perfectly with the storyline. Although the flawed camera is, in all fairness, one of the game's rare drawbacks, it is, undoubtedly, a very serious issue. To think that, to this day the developers simply failed to fix all the technical flaws and to establish a more appropriate and intuitive solution for the game's default camera is an embarrassment.

If anyone cares, the endings are way better and "prepared" than NWN 2,Obsidian really listened to the gamers in making this add-on.

An expected score. I would have given it a higher score, because the camera doesn't bother me one bit (i don't consider the camera controls as an issue at all... just a design decision), and i also haven't experianced any techincal issues (come to think of it, NWN2 1.03 run just fine aswell), aside from some slowdowns in certain areas. I guess i was just lucky. I know how frustrating it can be if certain events don't play out as they should (like not being able to pass through a portal, or a quest not finishing) though.

Also, i'm sure you understand that it's much harder to make a bugless RPG than a bugless game of any other genre.

In regards to the score, we generally don't score expansions higher than 89 so that's a pretty good score for an expansion.

The game's kinda making me think of Planescape: Torment in a way... Which is a good thing. There are those little things that seem to give Planecape a nod of recognition (although it might be "coincidence") such as One of Many, reminding me of an entity from Planescape called Many-As-One.
And the bizarre cast of NPCs and classes that accompany the (pro?)tagonist is glorious.

Kinda disappointed with how easy it is to influence the NPCs, but that might be because my character has charisma of epic proportions :-P

So I assume the game still runs like complete ass, yes? Alas, If only Obsidian knew how to code worth a damn, they'd be a worthier successor to Black Isle than they've ended up being.

Still, their storylines are pretty decent, so it's not all bad. Although the cast of characters in NWN2's original campaign was pretty uninspired and generic compared to what Black Isle came up with in BG 1 & 2 and PS: Torment.

Well anyway, high level rogues and Invisible Blade prestige class ftw.

"At the outset, it should be said that Mask of the Betrayer is designed for high-level characters, as it involves high-level enemies, deadlier traps and a variety of challenges created specifically for experienced avatars. In other words, you cannot play the game unless your avatar is at least level 18 or higher. Luckily, there's a selection of pre-made characters at the ready."

Isn't this wrong? I thought you can create a new char to play in MOTB and when you start, the game levels you up. So you don't have to import or use predefined chars.
Cheddar: You can probably do that too, I'm sure.

Even though I didn't have the will to finish this game, somewhat around the part after I pimped out my castle, I'll still prolly get this addon later.

I've almost finished Mask of the Betrayer and I must say I'm really enjoying the story. Although, some plot details have obviously been borrowed from the single-player campaign in BioWare's NWN, but all in all, it's still a fun ride.

I picked this up the other day, and I'm looking forward to playing it once I've finished Episode 2. It looks great, and if I'm lucky and don't hit any bugs, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I hope it has something as cool as the trial in NWN2. Even though it didn't affect much in the game, it was a welcome break from the standard D&D grind.
