![]() 8.6 Very Good Innovative, solid main campaign, humor, art design, excellent voice acting and more; Hardware hog, control issues on certain more complex levels, you can't beat up your nagging wife like every self-respecting overlord would. RATINGS GUIDE |

The downsides to the game mostly come down to some trickier areas where controlling your minions may become a pain in the ass. Not in a particularly bad way, but bear in mind that at some point, Overlord may become more complex than your average action adventure (for the sheer amount of multi-minion-tasking). In the process, a few brown minions may get stuck in the water or refuse to come back to you, and presto, you might have a pissed off gamer. Nothing one couldn't handle (a gamer with a normal attention span that is), but some of you may be, um, pickier than others.
![]() Sniff! Phew... I need a bath. |
![]() I got my eye on you! That's all I got really. |
The only other noticeable drawback was the frame rate on my Intel CoreDuo 6600, 2GB RAM, 7900GT rig. I'm not sure how Overlord works on the Xbox 360, but it was quite slow on my PC, even on 'medium' settings. The controls, on the other hand, (contrary to what I'm hearing about the 360 version) are very intuitive, straightforward and easy to use. As I said, the core gameplay component is very well done, controls included.
Overall, I would definitely recommend you go out and buy this game. It's got a surprising amount of depth and innovation in a lot of different areas of design, excellent humor, art work and sound. The very non-linear-feeling main campaign gets progressively difficult as you rise in power, so there will be plenty of challenges in store for you.
The steep hardware requirements on the PC, coupled with some minor control issues, may present a problem (sluggish frame rates primarily), but I'm hoping things may get better once a few patches have been released. Well, one can only hope really. If all else fails, that new NVIDIA card is a mere five hundred bucks - an absolute bargain.

| I think I speak for us all, when I say: You had me at "flesh-eating unicorns," 2Lions. Anyway, in the case of this particular game, the hardware hoggishness is probably more a result of all the heavy AI instructions being cycled than because of lack of attention by the developers on the PC version. Although you would think a core2duo CPU would be able to handle it better. Well, this is exactly why I've been saying that PPUs like Ageia's card are dumb and unnecessary, but on the otherhand, the advent of dedicated processing units for AI instructions really would be of great benefit to the future of PC gaming. |

| Wow, ok. I'm going to have to pick this up for my 360 as well then. Damn, thats 4 games in 30 days... my bank balance is looking baaad. | ||

| You convinced me to pick it up.. and I was rather adamant that I did not want to pickup yet another game. I already have a huge pile of half completed games sitting on my shelf that simply became dull too darn quick. I'm a tough sell. FYI, I finished Fable and loved Dungeon Keeper.. and adore dark humor. Now.. about my 6800GT vid card. A tad dated and I don't want to upgrade just yet. I hope it runs it well enough.. or on the shelf it goes LOL. | ||
Amok: lol Hitman: lol indeed

| I tried the demo on PC and even on my Athlon x2 2gigs of ram and Geforce 7800gt I was getting nasty slowdowns and had to pick medium detail for any kind of stable playing. I blame Vista. I tried the demo on the xbox 360 and despite the clunky camera angles here and there I decided I will pick this game up for the 360 instead. You are right though, this game is really cool and I highly suggest it. |

Hitman: Vista is definately to blame.. gaming wise do a dual boot an... thestewieman: i have vista installed on a S-ATA disk i had laying around, ...

| I tried the demos for both the Xbox360 and the PC and the PC version was a regular slide show so I went ahead with the Xbox360 version instead and I've been having a blast with it so far. Top quality entertainment. |

| Good game, played it through and I am pleased. Although i found the whole evilness thingy rather blurry. You can go through the game being God's chosen little heart-warming power-puff spawn, but still be considered evil and dominating. The whole good/evil appeared to be naught but an illusion =( good thing we can download trainers on the internet and become 100% corrupted from the word go =D |

| OH! one more thing! the subtle references aren't really subtle at all. The LOTR references hit you in the face one after the other for the first couple of levels. The hobb... I mean, the halflings are even having a party that you have to crash xD | ||
