The more persistent among you are bound to get some extra fun from unlockable Mercenaries mode that stands on offer once you've completed the game. The objective is to take out as many foes as possible on your own or with a friend within a time limit. There is no Versus mode in the PC edition, although the devs incorporated the No Mercy mode. It's a single-player mission allowing you to tackle three times the enemies you'd fight in the normal Mercenaries mode. So yeah, it's kind of a Mercenaries minigame, but very addictive. Since they've put all of that, we're still not sure why Capcom didn't insert more extras, unlockables and outfits for PC gamers. Hell, they could've even included a new map or a new story mission. Still, let's not exaggerate. It's clear enough that a lot of work was poured into optimizing the port and making it intuitive to PC gamers. In that respect, the developers completely succeeded.

Resident Evil 5 is a great-looking game on consoles and it looks even better on the PC, with some additional visual flavor for those equipped with Nvidia's 3D Vision. We played the Direct X 9 version and were still blown away with how it looks. Playing the Direct X 10 edition has some minor differences (nothing substantial). The most commendable thing about the game is that it works without a hitch, with no frame-rate drops, crashes or hiccups of any kind.
Okay, we noticed some errors and AI problems still linger from the console editions. In solo mode the AI often stumbles and can fall to an all together retarded death. Although this proved to be a negligible annoyance and is not enough to overshadow the numerous qualities of this game.
Everything else we've said in our RE 5 Xbox 360 review stands. Superb voiceovers, terrific soundtrack, addictive gameplay, challenging missions and extra-fun co-op, which, incidentally represents a major push forward for the popular horror series.
Capcom never ceases to amaze us. All these long years, they continue to develop games that appear to be polished to perfection. We've also come to respect and admire their design philosophy, which is successfully demonstrated in this game. All the elements are in place. You are missing out on so much if you decide not to play this game.
![]() 9.1 Excellent Cinematically breathtaking visuals, an optimized and well-polished engine, works extremely well on mid-range rigs, good plot, I don't know why exactly but it's always fun to replay this game, especially with a friend in co-op; We expected more extras and more cool new additions after the console versions, some of the AI quirks remain; RATINGS GUIDE |

Great review vader, Completely agreed with you!
RE5 is a great action game.
Problem is, that's ALL it is. Survival-horror? Bullshit. It's not survival-horror at all. If we're gonna slap that label on RE5, we might as well call Gears of War a "survival-horror" game. Subsequently, Dead Space is still the best survival-horror game this generation.
Because of this, these days the argument supporting RE's inhibitive by design control scheme falls flat. The argument was once valid, but now this latest game in the franchise has fully made the transition from survival-horror to pure action, and so what we're left with is a game with a control scheme that just works against itself and is an archaic tradition which needs to be cut, considering the new direction of the franchise.
And for the record, I have no problem with not being able to move and shoot -- that's realistic, mostly (many other games already implement this in effect -- you might still be able to shoot, but it's so inaccurate when moving fast that you shouldn't even bother... and that's how it should be). But I DO have a problem with other things, like not being able to move and reload... that shit's just fucking stupid. There's no logic whatsoever to the idea that you need to stand still to change a mag, unless you have Parkinson's or something. Pretty sure Chris and Sheva don't.
And, of course, the Japanese xenophobia of all things foreign reared its head again, this time even more flagrantly than in RE4. Maybe if you're Japanese (like Capcom themselves), the xenophobia enables the game to retain its horror aspect for the player. However, us foreigners that aren't actually disconcerted all that much at the sight of black-skinned people are out of luck.
I thought it would go back to its roots after 4 but it's the same murky crap setting just like Spain.
It's not scary at all to me. It's a shooter with a horror setting instead of a zombie survival game like it once was. The atmosphere just isn't there.
The character is stiff and the over the shoulder view is very limited.
The friendly AI is useless. The bitch doesn't react to half of the action in the game.
If that wasn't enough, they added a chunk load of quick time events on top of that. What fucking asshole came up with this frustrating and down right lazy gameplay mechanic?
I Am starting to see this crap in more and more games nowadays. Seriously. I want to play a game not an interactive movie, you asshole.
Resident Evil 3 is the last title that i enjoyed in this series.
Get Dead Space instead. That game actually manages to convey the spirit of the old games and be actually scary.
just tune up guns and blow black peoples head off -.-
Oh thats right, because this site is heavily biased towards PC games and you are all hack internet journalists.
1) Can you run?
2) Can you run AND fire your weapon?
and most importantly....
3) Can you circle strafe?
I played RE4 and died over 50 times trying to kill those big ogre-like things before I got fed up an implimented the God Mode cheat.
QuickBrownFox, Mr.Furious, GET A L.I.F.E.tm!
1. I don't see any reason why the scale for PC Games should be the same as the one used for consoles. The PC versions of both RE5 and SFIV deserve all the praise in the world for not being just some sloppy ports but actual PC Versions, with little if any bugs.
So I too would grade them higher than their console conterparts, because unlike in the case of most "consoley" games also seen on PC, the developers did a terrific job and actually made them run smoothly even on budget/entry-level gaming rigs and ensured a decent control scheme with a few extras.
2. If you want a shooter, then why don't you play Crysis, FEAR 2, STALKER etc.? This game's just not for you :)
