HIGHS
An impressive selection of structures, intuitive interface, easy to get into;

LOWS
Nothing lasting to be had here, superficial gameplay (particularly if you've played SimCity before and liked it), hardly a worthy contribution to the series, frame-rate issues in the retail version.

» All About SimCity Societies on ActionTrip

Don't expect much when it comes to disasters. I've played the game for quite a while and I've only experienced two recurring calamities - fire and a heatwave. The heatwave caused power shortages, because the Sims kept using Air Conditioning too much. This was a measly challenge, simply resolved by building another power plant or by using special features of existing plants. Well, at least, you can bring about a few optional disasters if you want (Killer Storm, Earthquake and Meteor Shower), which can be activated at any time.

The game looks and sounds pretty good. The developers clearly decided to stick to a simple but elegant design that's rather pleasing to the eye. Urban environments are colorful and represent a vivid depiction of a living, breathing society. Also, the game didn't exhibit any technical glitches. The only real problem may occur when your city increases in size, at which point you can expect significant frame-rate drops. EA released a patch that handles this, on top of adding two new buildings to the game.

To sum up, EA targeted this one for casual gamers and they did a good job in that respect. Those eager to get into the game quickly and without any extra effort are sure to enjoy it. Downloadable content will also be made available, so there's plenty potential for an active online community here, with numerous options to edit buildings and incorporate new textures and such.

Quite simply, the game is too easy. Other than balancing society energies and chasing a few meager trophies, you won't find much to entertain you here. The game is far from an "ultimate building block tool kit." SimCity has gone from a complex game to a toned down and largely underwhelming city builder with very little to hold your attention.

This release was shit in my opinion. So many people have reported install issues and I witnessed this first-hand. Way to EA, fuck up yet another release....

Think in this way... maybe there are just too many people complaining how hard it is to build a decent looking society from the previous titles. So if you don't want to spend time and energy on solving problems, this game is for you!

On the other hand, if you actually want to feel like you have achieved something at the end of the day, stay with the previous ones.

Also had some install issues. Been a fan of the SimCity series, I bought the game almost immediately after it hit the shelves. I can honestly say, it was the biggest waist of money I have spent on a game in recent years.

I must second that. Also, I don't feel like playing it again. Guess, it's back to SC 4 Rush Hour...

Fail

I knew this was going to happen. Its just so bloody typical! What used to be a game where you had to think and plan has now become surrealistic.

Kinda reminds me of when I tried to increase a skill (forgot wich one) in "The Sims 2" by watching through a telescope and then suddenly aliens came and abducted my character and impregnated him against his own will. Since its impossible to abbort pregnancy, adopt, or even kill the child (cheats didnt work either) I got stuck watching over this green creature when I was trying to improve my characters career. Kinda weird how the game features rape but not abbortion... Sounds very religous to me...

I've been up all night coming up with this theory. Here it is:
Sea People + Semen = Seaciety

Everyone: Whoa!

Excellent. I object to this game on moral and phylosophical grounds. Or at least to its title.

edit: decided to take away pointless comment on how I like Civ4

This game is so bad, even uninstalling it is a problem. Had to delete the files and the registry manually.
Vader [STAFF] [mail] Dec 06 2007, 08:19 am EST
That seems to be a problem with a lot of games these days.
