As for playing Battlefront II "unplugged," don't expect to get much out of the single-player. You'll be able to play through the "Galactic Conquest" mode in no time at all, and then you're left with nothing but tedious shootouts against bots that are occasionally extremely dimwitted (jamming in corners, oblivious to enemy fire etc). For some silly reason, the PC version doesn't allow you to play the Galactic Conquest online or via LAN - it's strictly playable in single-player mode (unlike the console versions, which allow you to try it out in multiplayer).

I was generally well-pleased with the design of the new maps, Mustafar, Utapah, Coruscant etc. ...with a couple of exceptions. Planets like Degobah are too damn dark, making it difficult to discern anyone who's not dressed in stormtrooper fashion (which, of course, puts the Empire in a great disadvantage). A similar issue was present on Endor.

In all honesty, what we have on our hands here is nothing more than a polished rehash of Star Wars Battlefront with an unavoidable touch of Star Wars goodness (new music themes, space ships, more vehicles, etc.), a few minor visual improvements and the same old gameplay mechanics. Still, Star Wars Battlefront was initially hailed as a Star Wars version of Battlefield and it's safe to say that the same basics are present in the sequel as well. Arguably, the Jedi are a welcomed feature and I had a lot of fun flying my favorite fighters from Star Wars and so on. But these features offer no particularly lasting value.

All in all, if you're looking for an engaging multiplayer experience, I'd sincerely stick to more refined shooters like Battlefield 2. It delivers so much more in terms of gameplay. Still, if you are really-truly hardcore about the Star Wars universe and you scoff at the "silly nuts and bolts weapons" and thing halogen lights are strangely appealing, with a patch here and there, Battlefront 2 just *might* be the experience you are looking for.
