The single-player campaign offers around 8 hours of gameplay. Arguably, that's not a lot of single-player gaming (Max Payne anyone? -Ed). On the plus side, however, Republic Commando does offer a multiplayer mode, with all the standard modes of play. If you're a first person shooter fan, and regardless of whether or not you are into Star Wars, you're going to want to play Republic Commando. The game manages to blend all these fantastic technical traits into one fluid and intense gameplay experience.
But just so that you don't think this game is the second coming or anything, I should note that the near-flawless squad-based combat comes at a certain price. The levels often feel very limiting, highly railed, and brimming with scripted sequences. They never even attempt to create the illusion of non-linearity. The rather bland and on occasion repetitive level design does have its redeeming factors of course, the biggest one being the fact that you'll be far more focused on issuing orders to your squadmates and enjoying the combat than looking around the maps. Republic Commando is an arcade shooter with a heavy application of squad-based elements, and as such it does a marvelous job of offering a fun-filled thrill ride, which no action game fan should miss. We give this game two thumbs up, and recommend that you pick it up if you get the chance. Now I'm off to polish my Wookie.

ACTIONTRIP SCORE 8.8 Very Good A seamless blend of good technology and lots of play testing results in a fun and exciting gameplay experience; Single-player relatively short, railed levels, possibly needed a little more replay value. RATINGS GUIDE |
