| » All About The Lord of the Rings: Conquest on ActionTrip | ||
Now, some effort went into recreating a few familiar settings from the flicks, so you'll get to behold the places and events such as Battle of the Pelennor Fields, Battle of Minas Morgul, Battle of the Black Gate, Mines of Moria, Weathertop, Rivendell, The Shire, etc.
What's cool is that the game provides a unique twist in the evil campaign, where the player gets to check out what Middle-earth would've turned into if Sauron had won the war. At this point, players can enjoy the invasion of Rivendell, the battle at Weathertop where Saruman has to kill Aragorn and eventually scorching of The Shire (wait that actually did happen in the books).
Anyway, if this game strikes you as appealing, then it means you're either eager to play something reminiscent of Pandemic's SW: Battlefront series or you still need to quench your thirst for the Lord of the Rings universe and its races and characters. If that's the case, then perhaps you can find some enjoyment here, though for a brief time. The narration, provided by Hugo Weaving, and the occasional cut-scene manages to capture the magic of the movies. That's as far as it goes, I'm afraid.
The simple fact remains that Lord of the Rings: Conquest isn't a very fun game. Thanks to all the aforementioned drawbacks, there's virtually nothing to enjoy about the single-player (we strongly advise you skip that).
Giving us nothing better to chew on apart from lackluster releases such as Mercenaries 2: World in Flames and now Lord of the Rings: Conquest, it's obvious enough that Pandemic is really starting to go downhill as a development team.

ACTIONTRIP SCORE 4.9 Tolerable Plenty of familiar locations, maps are nice, a few cool ideas; Altogether a pointless effort we could've done without. RATINGS GUIDE |
