Finally, the biggest problem I had with The Suffering is that, while it's very fun while it lasts, it doesn't last for very long. This is quite ironic when you think about it, seeing how the suffering should seem to last for ages and The Suffering is over in a flash. OK, sure, I was having lots of fun, but it took me about eight hours of play time to finish it. And then there's no multiplayer or co-op mode, which reduces this game's replay value down to zero if you don't factor in the alternate endings.
Other minor technical problems include the inability to turn on high-res textures even though I ran the game on a Radeon 9800 XT card and some freakish incidents where an insignificant guard would simply refuse to die. He would keep coming at me even though I shot him more times than they shot 50 Cent. No, puny prison guards are not ghosts by the way (or famous rappers) and they should by all accounts FUCKING DIE!
Even though The Suffering does most things right for a survival horror game, it sadly lacks more replay value and is just too damn short. It's still a hair-raising and very fun experience, but I suspect many people will be discouraged by how quickly it all ends. Those of you looking for an intense action/horror experience should still pick it up though; you won't be disappointed.

ACTIONTRIP SCORE 7.8 Good Story is suspenseful, eerie, intense and fluid action, great atmosphere, ambient sounds and music, quality porting job; Examples of cheesy dialogue, repetitive level design, too short and no MP = low replay value. RATINGS GUIDE |
