» All About Universe at War: Earth Assault on ActionTrip

Glitches aside, the AI works quite well throughout the single-player game. It rarely gives you a chance to take a breather and will force you to stay alert and alter your battle tactics as you go along.

Although Universe at War suffers from technical mishaps, it certainly shines when it comes to visuals. In fact, it has everything needed to make it look up to date. The overall quality of the design certainly shows, while players are bound to notice the detailed and well-animated units, cool-looking explosions and other modern-day visual treats. In the spirit of their previous work, Empire at War, Petroglyph did more than a good job with the graphics.

Voiceovers are pretty good too and fit each in-game character perfectly. The music is a bit retro, but it works fine. The tunes were composed by Frank Klepacki, who once worked with Westwood Studios on the earlier Command & Conquer games.

The multiplayer is entertaining indeed, especially when you've mastered all the advantages of a particular race. You'll find the usual skirmish modes, which are fun too. Conquer-the-world mode is the pinnacle of the multiplayer though, where players fight over individual territories throughout the globe. And now for the major bummer. This mode is restricted to Live Gold members. Of course, to become a Games for Windows - Live Gold member, naturally, you must pay up.

Universe at War: Earth Assault is, to be brief, a very good real-time strategy game you should try out, if nothing else. Once again, the gents and ladies at Petroglyph haven't disappointed. However, there's still nothing groundbreaking to be had here and due to the aforementioned slip ups, the game failed to achieve its full potential. But it comes very close.

This game was boring like a visit to a grandma gypsy oracle. Even on hard.

Hey Vader, I think you should make the users sign in before rating any games for the user score otherwise bots or random people can just come and mess up your rating system!

errr oops forgot to put what I think :P
This game is great... honestly there is so much depth the only part of your review I think was a little off was you saying it doesn't add much to RTS when it adds a lot with the tactical dynamics setting. and the changing a lot of things on the fly that you normally can't.

for once theres a review that's half way decent on this game and not bias, at least i think not...

PS: the morons saying it's boring obviously havn't even played it... or played 1 hr at most... it's no 10 but 8.7 is very smart score...

Empire Earth 3 was a complete piece of crap. This is a good game.

I take it none of you have had to deal with the odd "abnormal game exit" bug, yeah? While playing the singleplayer game, sometimes the game would start acting up. The mouse cursor would change to a square of messed up graphics and whenever I completed objectives in the game, the next objectives weren't triggered until I moved my units around a lot.

And 5-10 minutes after these oddities started happening, the game would crash with an abnormal game exit error. Two patches and three months later, they still don't have a solution to it.

The Petroglyph forums are red hot with complaints. Some people apparently aren't able to play for more than 20 minutes at a time and they can't load save games. I'm fortunate enough to be able to play 1-2 hours at a time before I get the error.

Pretty annoying glitch, though.
