The sound design was also a bit of a letdown. Character voicing is extremely low-fi, displaying rather second-rate character voicing. Ambient noise and other sound effects are quite poor which really doesn't amount up to a pleasing audio experience. The music is enjoyable though, and was effectively blended with the action. Players will hear a selection of symphonic-orchestra type of tunes, reminiscent of Hollywood epics.
From a certain point of view Wars and Warriors: Joan of Arc is similar to the recently released strategy/RPG, Spell Force; except, of course, Spell Force still has many advantages; adventure elements, better pathfinding, and solid AI routines, all of which are needed to straighten things out in W&W: Joan of Arc. Both games, however, are technically unpolished and were released with badly optimized engine codes.
In a nutshell, Joan of Arc can be fun, but only for a short while. Also, I'm not quite sure players will be grateful for what the game offers in exchange for a $40 price tag. Although there's enough action and a few cool RPG elements, the whole shebang doesn't appear to involve any engaging or innovative gameplay moments that might brighten up today's gaming scene.

ACTIONTRIP SCORE 5.1 Okay Intuitive interface, lengthy missions, combat variety, your characters can ride horses, cool soundtrack; Too much emphasis on action, poor pathfidning and AI, substandard character voicing, choppy frame-rate, lack of multiplayer. RATINGS GUIDE |
