![]() 9.1 Excellent Brilliant, New, Exciting gameplay. A new game type for people to experience; Some things feel tacked on and people might not receive the game as well as they might think they will (due to its more streamlined and simplified nature). RATINGS GUIDE |

There's also minigames, like one in which you fly around your little ship, your flier, as if you were in one of those top down space shooters like Galaga. You just shoot and shoot and shoot, and blow up wave after wave of incoming ships that don't really do anything that makes sense. It looks bad too. Why on Earth did they put this in there? Just show them landing the flier somewhere, and I will infer that they made it there all right. No need to make this an action-role playing game arcade flight simulation - that's just trying to hard.
As I've said before, Bioware is just trying something new. They're expanding, and they've done a very good job with this foray into new ideas. I really can't complain about any of it, as I really do enjoy this game, but I am going to make one little proviso in my recommendation for this game. Come into it with an open mind. If you're expecting Knights of the Old Republic, or Baldur's Gate, or Neverwinter Nights, but with ancient magical Chinese warriors, you've come to the wrong place. This is a very different game. But a very good one.

| I had the choice between this and SC Chaos Theory yesterday. I picked SC because it was $10 cheaper. I'll be sure to pick up Jade Empire soon though. Bioware makes great games and I can't wait to try this one out. | ||

| That man has bosoms! But the game seems ok. Great graphical detail for an xbox game - look at that chick's hands! | ||

| This could have been a great game. Instead its merely "good". The big let down, is the dialog trees, and the loading screens. You can't go 20 feet without running into a loading screen. Thats ok, except the game has you running back and forth between areas. Which means you will load the same areas, again and again. The second drag on the game, is the conversions. Pretty much every time a NPC says anything to you, you have 3 or 4 choices of what to say in response. But most of the time what you say means nothing. You can call them a jerk, or praise their wisdom, and you will get the same response. Unless they are offering you a mission, the NPC conversations are just a big drag, that dont lead any where. I think many of these "interactive" conversations could have been converted into standard cut-scenes. This would have kept the game flowing. There are some points were your responses do matter. But for every real choice you are offered, you will have 8 fake choices, that all lead you to the same place. The game looks good, sounds good, and the controls are solid. But this fake "choice" conversation system just slows things down too much. For example, everytime you meet a new friend, they will ask "do you want me to come with you". You are given about 4 choices: 1) "yes" 2) "no" 3) "yes, but I still dont trust you" 4) "not right now" But, no matter what option you pick, they will join your party. This fake choice stuff, is just a waste of time (yeah, I know, I've said it like 3 times now). This is the sort of thing that should have been handled by a standard (and skippable) cut scene. I think if they had stripped down the dialog trees, to the point where you were only asked to make choices, when there was a choice to be made; it would have been a better game. Or if your conversation choices had more impact, that would have been good as well. I rented it, I like it, and I bought it. Its a good game, just not as good as it should have been. You spend just too much time staring at a useless conversation screen. |
