of a hacking attack. User information has been accessed in the process.

Valve confirmed that the Steam
Users' Forums downtime, which happened
earlier this week, were in fact the result of a break-in. Here the word

Sony confirms that they locked out over 100,000 accounts from PSN and other
online services after a spike in unauthorized login attempts, as reported by
NYTimes.
Word is: "In a statement Wednesday, Sony said it suspected that hackers had
obtained login data from other Web sites or sources and used those to try to
gain access to Sony accounts...

Greater London's Metropolitan Police Central's Police National e-Crime Unit (which has a national jurisdiction as indicated by the name) nabbed Ryan Cleary in Wickford, Essex on Monday night.
Ryan tried to hack some sites associated with Anonymous and went public with it, and then operated in LulzSec under the name 'TheWickford'...

Hackers, listen to me, please: We get it. All of us non-hackers get it. You're holding all the cards, over 9000 decks worth, and no one is safe. This is easy to understand. My own information was swiped in the Sony breach, but I'm not taking the free identity theft protection because if identity theft was your objective, it would have already happened...

Gregory Evans, a hacker who spent time in prison for hacking who now runs a security firm says Sony is still insecure. Not only because no network is secure and anybody's machine can be hacked, but also because the security people they're using aren't hackers themselves...

In at least an attempt to regain some of the good will lost between Sony and PSN users as a result of this never ending hacking story, Sony has ponied up the dough for all PSN users to get free ID theft protection. PSN users can now sign up for the service...

On April 20th, like always, someone was up to some serious business. In this case, these outages.
Today is May 9th, so we've have 19 days of downtime for the PlayStation Network. There was talk that everything would be restored by May 31st, but that's been abandoned, outside of a promise that online gaming will return first and ostensibly soon...

Since the number of accounts breached has now surpassed 100 million, Sony is offering free id theft protection services to all of its clients affected, including a million dollar insurance policy. Instructions on how to sign up with the outside firm they've negotiated this deal with will be e-mailed to PSN customers shortly...

I will be reporting on this until I die. Anonymous has denied any responsibility, citing the fact that stealing credit card numbers is not in the interests of its mission. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has subpoenaed Sony for more information...

Sony testified to Congress, in a letter. The letter explains the full extent of the attacks...
