Thought I'd put the spotlight on indie devs, instead of EA for a change.  AT COMIC: Indie Game Stereotypes

Indie game worshipers, gather, because there's this little thing called 'Overland' and they are describing it as a turn-based survival game or rather “868-HACK meets XCOM meets Oregon Trailer meets Left 4 Dead meets Roadside Picnic." Also, it's not a zombie game...

Filed under: SPACE RUN, INDIE GAMES
Space Run is an upcoming indie PC game that combines real-time strategy, spaceship building, and a bit of tower defense all while poking fun of and paying homage to 80s science fiction. The game stars Captain Buck Mann, a space delivery boy, who must deliver cargo all over the galaxy while avoiding space pirates, managing asteroid belts, and beating all other delivery competition. No definitive release date yet, but it's set for second quarter 2014, which means about any week now.

The gaming industry was always crammed with triple-A titles, but things have changed in the past few years. The indie gaming scene is now thriving, leaving us with a whole bunch of cool experiences to get into, from 2D platforms and challenging adventure games, to awesome retro-style shooters and damn-fine strategy games...

And how about a funny trailer to go along with the horrible one for The Amazing Spider-Man 2? The press release for this game was just as humorous. The statement continued with the schtick that Tim Schaefer was completely unaware that Magical Time Bean was working on their sequel to Escape Goat at the Double Fine offices...

Double Fine isn't just letting Magical Time Bean use their spare office space to develop great indie games; they want to help any indie developers needing assistance getting their games out the door. "Our goal is to help indies build their own community and empower them with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed on their own...

I'm utterly disgusted with what current mainstream gaming scene has to offer and the same bloody thing goes for movies, especially the crap that was released in the last few years or so. After the news that EVE Online will be made into a TV series, well, that certainly made me realize just how pathetically unoriginal the entertainment industry has become...

Scratching your head doesn't cut it sometimes. Just consider your mistakes carefully and try to ponder why you've made them. Only then can you press forward and hope to unlock all the secrets this game holds. The question is, do you know what the hell you're doing? And remember to keep your feet, 'cause there's no knowing where you might be swept off to...

Feast your eyes on the latest plunge into insanity straight from the depths of independent video game development. The game was crafted by Alexander Bruce, an untapped game design talent from Melbourne, Australia. The PC title was described as "a mind-bending psychological exploration game where nothing can be taken for granted...

Boy, I'm really glad there are still making games like this one and this one. And, okay, okay, I'll admit this much; I am excited about Elite: Dangerous and Project Eternity. Mainstream gaming hasn't turned into a cesspool of mediocrity just yet, but thanks to indie devs there are still some pretty awesome ideas out there. Just hope EA doesn't spot them... and devour them.

In case you weren't aware, you may go ahead and feast your eyes upon our review of EA's Syndicate game. Not that you'll be too happy with what you find there... Apart from the range of shooters arriving on the market, I'm glad to see there are so many new indie games surfacing...

Our buddy Un Om Bun takes another headfirst dive into the waters of indie gaming. We take a look at Freebird Games' latest creation, To the Moon: To the Moon is a love story with some light sci-fi elements. It takes place almost entirely inside a dying man's mind, as two doctors search his memories for clues that might help them fulfill his dying wish: to go to the Moon...

I used to have a pretty good notion of where this industry is going, although I'm not so sure now. Normally, I'd be convinced that EA and Blactivsion will take over the world with MMORPGs and Call of Duties and yet Skyrim is a testimony that gamers still want the single-player RPG experience...

So what's next for us? Are we gonna grow beards, fat stomachs and just fade away into the electronic alleyways of the Internet, as the game industry goes all 'casual' on us? No. Certainly not. What's more, I think publishers are starting to pay a lot more attention to the indie game scene, which is a big deal...
