It's a good day for layoffs, as it turns out. After receiving the news that people were let go at Raven, Electronic Arts also confirmed layoffs at Spore developer EA Maxis (ouch). "Often in the video game industry, the size of a studio fluctuates in response to business conditions," EA told Shack. "In this case, EA has taken action to reduce the workforce at Maxis as we focus the business and focus Maxis." EA doesn't say anything further on the subject.

Even though it didn't quite live up to its massive prerelease hype, Spore garnered a pretty large and loyal fan base. In less than a month after launch, the life creation sim game sold 1 million copies worldwide on the PC, Mac and Nintendo DS. Also, more than 25 million creations were registered from gamers all over the world. According to the Spore Illustrated, a few days ago the game celebrates its 100 millionth creation, which sounds impressive to say the least.
