It appears that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will feature use SecuROM
copy-protection for the game's retail version, which, as they say is the least
intrusive way to protect its content from piracy. This was confirmed by CD Projekt
during the CDP Days 2011 Spring Conference...

As you probably know, EA was hit by wave
of criticism after one user got banned about a 72-hour suspension for an
"inappropriate" forum post, which also blocked the user from playing
his copy of Dragon Age 2. The ban was lifted, but EA also faced more backlash
for, supposedly, firing off a nasty SecuROM into their title, Dragon Age 2...

The version which we use is a wrapper around the main game executable. It
does everything it can by running as a “normal” program; it does not install
any sort of kernel software...

Steam News confirms that players will now be able to update Command and Conquer:
Red Alert 3 through Steam, removing the SecuROM copy-protection from the game.
The update's applied automatically when the Steam client is restarted.
The official word is: "This game was delivered with both Sony SecuROM
and Steam digital rights management technology...

In Rockstar's official FAQ, we learn more about the Digital Rights Management
Software in the development studio's upcoming PC edition of Grand Theft Auto
IV. Here's a snip:

You may or may not have heard about lawsuits popping up, related to EA's recent
DRM issues. Last month two new class-action lawsuits were filed against Electronic
Arts in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Again,
it concerns EA's utilization of SecuROM digital rights management...

Bad news, people. Ubisoft confirmed that the PC edition of Far Cry 2 uses the
SecuROM DRM technology, albeit a slightly different version of what was released
with Spore and Crysis
Warhead. According to Ubisoft

Atari announced that the PC edition of the survival horror video game Alone
in the Dark is going to include SecuROM activation. The activation process is
compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista and it basically means that after
the installation you'll need to go online download an additional component,
which lets you run the game...
