Chris Roberts, creator of the classic Wing Commander game series, is reportedly back and has been working for the past year on a brand new project, currently underway in LA-based Cloud Imperium Games. It appears that the game won't be completed for a few years, although they have released an announcement trailer that features in-engine assets and some cool scenes...

Ah, yes, yesterday's news on Descent brought back some nice gaming memories. It's one of those shooters I really enjoyed next to games like Wing Commander. It's a shame that the genre of sci-fi shooters deteriorated to the point where absolutely no developer or publisher would even think about putting up their money for a serious big-budget project involving X-Wing style space shooting. Who knows... maybe those days will return.

Electronic Arts filed new trademark registrations for Wing Commander, Populous, Theme Park and Road Rash. Well, it's a short news story, but I believe we do not need to hear more than that. Besides, EA still hasn't made any official statements. Hm, I'd say 'yes' to a brand new Wing Commander space epic (although I don't exactly yearn for those cheapish live-action cut-scenes).
